Thread: Bazaar Revamp Ideas...

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but I believe that the bazaar needs a revamp as it's not fulfilling the needs of the wider player base right now.

The 6k increase was a fantastic idea a few months back, but changes need to be made at the moment. I get tired of refreshing thoruhg the lists several times a day, finding a great item, then discovering that it's an auction with the minimum price set at 6k; thus unbuyable

The auction feature is being used as an advertising tool at the moment, and it makes scanning the bazaars for "proper" auctions very difficult indeed.

So I have 2 ideas for a bazaar revamp;

1) Add an advertiser's section. In here, you can place an item to advertise your shop, saving you from adding a "6k auction" item to every section which your merchandise goes in. This space is rented, in much the same way as houses and harvesters are charged rent. Any player can place one advert, but as you rise in the Merchant profession, this rises to 5 or maybe even 10 adverts, with only one allowed per type of item

2) Add a seperate auction area, working in a similar fashion to the trade forums. There is no upper limit on bid values, but is limited to2 items per player (to stop people putting all their auction items on there instead of the "normal" bazaar). The auction can be limited to the time length desired.

I am discussing these ideas for a number of reasons, mainly because I get tired of the bazaars being "misused" and because 90% of my guild don't even know what the trade forums are, let alone how to use them. Plus I'm sure that those searching for rare high end loot would appreciate not having to scan through reams of ordinary trades to try and find something that suits their needs.

The auctions used as advertising are hugely annoying and waste time. The devs need to make it so high level items put on"auction" are immediately delisted once a bid reaches 6k. There should never be something still listed with a 6k bid already on it. That would take care of part of the problem.

I agree, but there still needs to be an option for people to advertise their wares aside from the planetary map. The map is ok for finding a vendor you have been recommended to by a friend, but quite often travelling between all the vendors listed, you find that 70% of them are empty

The 6k auction nonsense has come about because there's a lack in the game of this sort of trading. People need to sell things for more than 6k, yet at the same time the game's only form of advertising isn't reliable enough or robust enough to handle the demands of themerchants. Thus they subvert the bazaars in an attempt to get a wider market for their goods.

I think it would be usefull for merchants to be able to have a direct link to their vendor from the bazaar. Of course they would need to pay a maint fee of some sort, and it could only be used on the bazaars on same planet as vendor. But this way, no advertizing is really needed. just click on their link and see what they have. Would also save us some time traveling to all the diferent vendors , only to find they dont have what you need and/or are empty.

I'm one of those people who has tons to sell that are worth more than 6000 credits, but not so valuable or numerous that I should start pursuing Merchant and buy my own vendor. There seems to just be a huge gap. At one end are bazaar terminals, with things valued only up to 6000, the rest just being advertising. At the other end are vendors with outrageously priced items, many orders of magnitude more expensive. There needs to be a filling of this gap. Increase bazaar limit? Even to just 10k would help and I don't think would dent the merchant economy (since they sell things at mad prices anyway (e.g. 50,000 credits for party posters..and the merchant tells me they actually sell pretty well!!)

I've begun auctioning some of my things in a "closed auction" fashion on the bazaar terminals. Not advertising at all. But interested parties email me their highest bid and I contact the winner. It does not work too well, since not many other people do this. I don't know if this is abusing the system, but it is the only solution I have available to me.

Incidentally, I also have had the idea of using the bazaar terminals to offer role-playing player-initiated bounties, which is no argument - an abuse of the system - but it would be fun if it could work. Why not offer a 6000-credit cheapy item with a customizable title (e.g. "Bounty reward for cancellation of TehUber1337") and in the description explain the term of the bounty. I have never seen it, and I'm definitely not going to stretch my neck to be the first to try it I think the Empire would put a bounty on me if I tried any such stunt

From a post of mine on the Architect forum, in which we discussed the problems of having an independant merchant:

So the question what tools need to be in play to make that happen?? ( alot will emphasis on simplifing how items are managed on the vendor because I think a large reason we dont see alot of TRUE merchants rather than crafter/merchant hybrids is because a TRUE merchant now Is a SLAVE to the vendor and I do not believe that is fun for anyone... )

(snip reference to earlier discussion & non bazaar issues)

It must be made easierto get Vendors and Merchants together.[Maybe a]"Classified Advertising" tabon the Bazaar? Running the ad must cost money, more on the hub planets. Ability to run the ad is restricted by your senority in the Galactic Merchant's guild: i.e. it's linked to the Advertising branch [of Merchant]:

Novice: no listing--You gotta pound the pavement for suppliers or buy off other merchants/bazaar. Lvl1: Run ad in 1 city That is, you must be in the city the ad was placed in order to see it when checking the bazaar.

Lvl2: Ad shows up at any terminal on planet.

Lvl 3: Ad shows up anywhere on major planets.

Lvl 4 Ad shows up in all cities on all planets.

"Merchant seeking supplier of Swoops. Must be at least 94% experimented. Offering 15K+1k per % over 94%. Need 10."

"Architect seeking sales agent for civic structures! Have wide supply of small gardens @50k ea., email Archi for full price list.

[obviously, this wouldget used for anything and everything, including auctions.]

---------------

I suggest handling [crafter to merchantstock transfers] through the bazaar: Make a specialtab accessable ONLY by master merchants (to make that box really worthwhile). The Galactic Merchant's Guild will provide, for a nominal fee of 1%, a customs, brokerage, and storage service. If a merchant and crafter agree on a price/item transfer, the crafter can deliver his items at any time to any city's Bazaar terminal, and list both the prices and buyer. The buyer gets an email that the crafter has delivered. S/he -- and ONLY s/he can then go to that planet and city to pick up the items. Doing so automatically transfers the agreed upon price from the bank account of the merchant to the crafter, plus the 1% fee to the GalacticMerchant's Guild. The buyer and seller do not even have to be online at the same time. The buyer can examine the goods at his/her leisure. Restriction to Master Merchant keeps it from being something everyone could use to get around the 6k limit, since of course, it couldn't be subject to it. (Alternate proposal: lesser levels of merchant could have higher limits than 6k, until master, who would be unlimited.)
