Thread: The state of the in-game economy -- post CU

I posted this on the Infinity forum, but I think its relevant here also



( Ok , I admit this is really my Sunday Morning moan , cos I'm stuck at work for 12 hours,

but let's see if I can write something productive )


A long time ago, in a galaxy far,far, away............(hehe)


The was a game called SWG created by SOE and people played it happily for a couple of years. good patches came and went, as did the bad ones, but slowly the sense of community grew, Guilds were strong and supportive, In Coro everyone did their thing and Imps even waved to the Rebs, we all knew who us old-timers were.


Then came the GCW, suddenly you couldnt walk down the street anymore without getting shot at, everyone went on leave!

Ours and many great guilds fractured/splintered into small factions and peeps who had been mates for 2 years were suddenly at each others throats.

Before we could recover , we were hit by the Combat Upgrade.

In hindsight now, its not entirely a bad thing, just very different, and takes a bit of getting used to.

My main has Master Carb now and enjoying it, but all is not right in the world.


What I want SOE / the devs to realize, is that not everyone plays this game for the combat !!

Yes its a laff sometimes, but I and many others would still like to use our crafting alts as pure crafters/merchants. We , I like to think, keep the social community on this server ticking over from day to day, which someone needs to do.


Combat should be optional, and you should still be able to happily survive without it.

The medical profession is my prime example. We have COMBAT medics to heal in combat, so why can't "ordinary" medics and doctors work in a hospital ( surely , their PROPER place in the world ) while gaining xp.

My medic alt likes to craft / sell stims and heal people, WITHOUT FIGHTING.


If 75% of this server wants to hit / shoot stuff , great !

But.... 25% of us who dont want to constantly bash things is still hundreds, if not thousands of people ( and thats only on Infinity )


So please SOE , listen to your people and un-nerf the crafting professions.

Big Whoop for the CU, but can we now please have an EconomicUpgrade that basically puts the non-coms back in a position where they can make a living without having to duck all the time .

but when the crafting profs are not fun, people are not going to play them. when looted gear becomes as good or better then crafted weapons, crafters are going to take a hit. There is no be range in weapon stats anymore. armor don't do much. buffs are pretty useless. etc, etc, etc
