Collect creature resources if you have any scout in your template. Rent out your lots to a crafter or place your own harvesters and sell what resources you collect from them. And as always running missions.

You can also use your lots to plant mineral harvestors and sell resources yourself. There are two approaches you can take:

1) Static Harvesting: Just find a good spot close to your home and plant your harvestors. Then just harvest whatever happens to be the highest concentration under them. There's almost always something of high concentration. Sometimes you'll only get grind quality resources that sell for around 2 cpu, and sometimes you'll get lucky and something really nice will spawn under your harvestors that you can sell for a lot more. This is the least time intensive approach (just check your harvestors every couple of days), and doesn't require artisan skills to use.

2) Cherry Picking: This approach requires more effort, but is potentially more rewarding as well. You'll need to get at least novice artisan so you can use a survey device (or you can hire an artisan to survey for you). You'll need to do a little research to find out what constitutes a good resource, and you'll also need to move your harvestors once a week or so. But if you mine only the best resources you can sell them for considerably more (say 4-5 cpu or even more).

Also, if you are a master pilot, you can do duty missions to earn some serious cash, as well.
