Thread: SPAM Time for it to end

I'd call Doc spamming a special case. I haven't been using my rate spamming macro for my alt recently (it needed a bit too much in the way of alterations for me to feel like bothering), but the effect was the same, you need to mention your rates fairly frequently (most customers). Besides, it's ATK spamming for an immediate service - people know you're there doing something, it's not the "start it and go away" of AFK spammers or (more so since you can't /addignore them) barker droids.

Simple solution to stop spammers. and Afk auto looters.

REMOVE LOOPING MACROS

Its as simple as that..

If you can't loop a macro, then you can't go afk for 12 hours at the coronet starport spamming the incomming players, Causing them lag and even causing some to crash.

If you can't loop a macro then you can't go afk for 24 hours killing Swooper Leaders and looting everything they drop. In affect preventing anyone else a chance at that loot.

I Know this solution would also remove buffbots from the game.. but if you can't find a buffer godo solo missions, you ARE suppoed to be able to take solo missions by yourself, Unbuffed..

We as a player base rely to heavly on buffs anyhow

Get rid of player vendors, and get rid of the silly limitations on the bazaar, that way people will actually use it to sell worthwhile stuff. No more searching endlessly through the wilderness. No more reams of people sitting in Coronet spamming. Easy access to items! How is this a bad thing?

...Posting rants on these forums is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get ya anywhere... write that down.

You know thats not half bad but I would take that one step further. You let the crafters keep their vendors, but allow them to register their vendors through the bizarre. With a local shops option. That way the player can buy the item on the bizarre instead of at your shop. Just make the bizarre take a cut. It probabally wouldnt work though the merchants would shoot it down.

Simnple solution to spammers - ignore lists. I have over a 300 person ignore list of just spammers, and I cna have conversations in Cnet now.

Other than the fact is completely destroys the merchant prof, it's not a bad thing.

Simple? Simply unacceptable. I don't want to ignore half the server.

Spam is a problem, I hate it because i creates lag but still it is needed due the lacking of a in-game advertizement board.

I wanted to buy a rare item so I posted on the Galaxy Trade Board, asked on the in-game Planet and Auction channels..... no answer. I started spamming in Dantooine MO and guess what ?... 1/2 hour later I was contacted by a guy willing to sell it.

I also found many useful items and vendors thanks to peoplespamming in starports.

The answer to spam is to create an in-game advertizement board.

I don't want to bed rude/insulting to you all, but how bad are your computers/connections that the spamming is creating bad lag?

I do not feel insulted at all :I am on cable, my bandwidth usage during play is around 0.3% with an FPS of 28-30 but on entering Coronet my framerate drops to 2-3 while bandwidth is still at 0.3% ...... hardly a connection problem I would say......

Computer spec are :Athlon xp 2ghz, 1 gig ram, I can run the game on 1600X1200 with no problems....unless I enter a spamzone, in that situation even lowering resolution and graphical settings tomin does no good.

If spam goes away, you're going to have no new crafters entering the market. Think about it, how does a new crafter let everyone know he's there?

That's simply not true.

I have built and helped to build multi-million credit businesses in some of the most unlikely places in the game (even by non-masters in the current market), entirely without spamming, based solely on this marketing strategy:

  1. Stock up with a largeinventory of things which people need and you can craft fairly well. You don't need to be a master in your profession to do this necessarily. Just need to think creatively.

  2. List on the planetary map.

  3. Advertise in your in-game bio, forum signature& post restock information regularly on the galaxy trade forums. Yes, even though they'll get flushed away by auctions. Auction buyers are always on the lookout for a good deal, and they'll read your thread even in the middle of all the action. Reuse the same thread for a while (but only bump it when there's something to announce) so that buyers see a pattern of your regular restocking and that you're conscientious enough to be the non-spamming type.

  4. Sell on the bazaar and get really good about sending thank you e-mails w/WP attached. Doesn't even have to relate to your craft, so if you can't sell comp armor pieces on the bazaar, don't worry - just sell a few thousand units of power, some loot,or something else and in your thank you mail, mention that you also sell armor.

  5. Take good care of your customers and they'll become regulars. Take good care of your regulars and they'll tell their friends. That's your best advertising right there.

You really don't have to spamthe starports 24-7to make your money. You don't even need the Auction channel. Focused marketing and word-of-mouth can get you a lot better business than spam ever will. Not only that, you'll get some long-term customers who appreciate and respect the fact that you aren't a starport spammer.

Sorry, but there isn't enough population anymore to spread word of mouth. 4 months ago these tactics used to work, I know because I employed them all. Now people shop malls because they are the most convenient and they know, normally any mall is going to be well stocked. Only the longest playing crafters have access to be in the malls people frequent. Even new malls don't get any business. It's spam or die now. Check your friends list, how is it compared to 4 months ago?

I throw in my 2cents...

1. I have nobody in my ignore list, and i can have wonderful conversations in Coro, as im zoomin in and only lookin at the three people i like, for example
2. It is normal that on a market place, there are market shouters. Lol dudes i know the most of ya are from US, and i dunno if culture detroyed it, but over here, there are plenty of cool, crazy, good AND loud markets.
3. Combining point one and point two, i would say, if youre on a market and one of these spammers is too "loud" for you, just move away a few metres and start talkin there. This is like it is in reality!!!
4. Ever heard of "Hearing Selectively" (or somethin like that)?? A Dog who cant do that and is standing on a market place like coro, would get crazy immediately. Try to concentrate on the things youre mate is sayin. As if you were in a disco.
5. All i have to say to this whole thread is:

Watching the Spatial Channel on a Market place is stupid, and all you have to do is to do it not!!!

Just like in reality!!!

All solutions brought up here to solve this problem are &%§$§& and they wont change a §$"§$". So stop discussing about this §"$§%" you "$"%" *irony not flaming*

Aaah, and btw i got an idea. Put some market stands in game, which you can rent, or shops in coro or what ever. Or Make a Zone where spamming is allowed, called "MArket" (cause as i said spamming on a market is normal like pissin after 3 beer). I mean eh, ever watched the place in coro, there is a market right in front of the SP, but noone uses it. Force Spammers to do so. Dunno how. Then you can stand 50 metres away in front of SP, drink your brandy and have a nice day in smogged up Coro..
