Yes players do use auctions. Mostly noobs who are not sure what their item is worth, and I think the should remove the bizarre cap on auctions period not instant sales mind you

You got a good item you want to auction it and you place the item on the bizarre as a auction. Set the bizarre to take a ten percent fee of the final price. Once its up there it cannot be removed its out of your hands. Sort of like a real auction. You want to buy it back yourself fine, but now you gots to pay for it. In other words your spending money for the free advertiseing. If its a good item you can be outbid, and it saves alot of tradeforum and chat channel nonsense. Simply auction the items.

One you get a simple time effective way to auction items in the game. So players will not have to hunt down loot shops. You put in an antisnipeing part of the program. The sale ends 24 hours after the final bid is made example. Presto you get a easy way for players to auction off high end stuff. The game gets another money sink need this. It could be very community oriented, and last but not least nobody can use the bizarre for free advertiseing. Infact you could use the option to auction on the bizarre so player can avoid things like breaking stacks of resources.

The proposal listed wasn't for no cap on the bazaar but no cap on auctions. This sounds like an EXCELLENT idea. I mean, when was the last time you went to eBay and saw closed items because the seller reached his target price? LOL...

Another poster above asked what they were supposed to do, rely on word of mouth and have vendors across the galaxy? Well, um... yeah? Again, look to real life. You have your little shops at the local level. Small businesses, mom and pops, whatever you want to call them. People go to these stores because they are convenient. Then you have the corporations. K-Marts, Targets, Etc. They are all over the place. People might have to travel a little to get to them, but the customers know that they will likely find exactly what the are looking for at a price considered reasonable to them. When Mos Vegas (our old player city) was in existance we were out in the middle of nowhere. But my vendor sold my weapons at really good prices. (I was Master Weaponsmith at the time.) Word got out and I did a pretty good business, even though I wasn't convenient. Never underestimate the power of reputation.

I would love to see no cap auctions on the bazaar.

For some things it's the best advertising you can get. The item is only up for a week so with anyone advertising a shop in this manner it's safe to assume they recently stocked. Three or four more times the business for vendors using this.

What we really need is a new master artisan item and a new category. Advertising chip and advertisements section. Then for 5k a week you can put your advertising chip up. You have to re-up it every week for 5k. Maybe with a 20k-100k chip it could let people browse your vendors from the bazaar. I know this seems like a lot of work and money but that’s the only way to make sure it’s not some empty vendor with an ad that’s been up for 30 days.

A lot of times I'll see an item on the bazaar for auction for 6k, but in the item comments, the person will write "contact so-and-so to purchase this item for 300k." Totally defeats the purpose of the whole bazaar system.

How auctions should work is that you don't get to enter a price when you put something up to auction. The item sells when it hits 6k credits, or the highest price at the end of a week.

I don't even bother looking at anything that is an auction, 95% of the items up there are either this scenario or an advertisement.

The no cap on auctioned items sounds good to me, i mean if anything is worth auctioning it will be as someone said before, worth more than 6000 credits. This would be good for both people selling and buying. For the seller it means he doesnt have to keep track of e-mails with offers etc and for the buyer it lets them see all the rare and wonderful items that they may be able to get.

I agree that if the max amount of 6k is reached the item should be sold.

I was looking at packs for the entire galaxy the other night and there was someone who had packs that were labled Armor pack - Not for sale, Loot kits - not for sale, (you get the idea) and they were all at the max amount of 6k, meaning they probably have an alt and they bid it that high so they could use the bazaar for storage. They just got another roughtly 300 pieces of item storage by doing this.

Please make it so if the max of 6k is reached the auction ends and the person is the winner.

I'm sure a lot of players would be for this change. And they could even add an "auction fee reduction" bonus at the top of one of the Merchant branches, so that they can make a little more money (as a reasonable skill point cost). Most of the system is already in place, the caps just need to be removed, the percentage fee added, and the "end auction" ability taken away. What good argument would be against this ability for all players?

First of all the auction advertisements are annoying, but I would agree to allow something like

Anyone: 1 auction capped at 10k. why 10k it's a nice round number. If someone bids 10k or the buyout price it's sold and gone.

Novice Merchant:3 auctions capped at 50K. If 50k is reached it's sold immediately unless there was a lower buyout price.

Master Merchant: 5 auctions No cash cap. Can be purchased if buyout price is payed.

All auctions should not last more than 7 days. This gives a solid benifit to merchants and Masters who have spent the skill points.

and I think that covers my thoughts. though a directory of crafters & their stores on a terminal in major cities would be nicer than the overhead map thing they have now. I use the overhead map for tactical reasons and it sucks if you get into a fight near a bunch of planetary add vendors.

I advertise that way. it brings in a lot of business. If they change it they simply remove a way for me to get out the message. I am a Master merchant. This would leave me with 1. word of mouth, 2. spamming (albiet every 60 seconds not every 5 seconds) the planetary and auction channels and 3. placing a single vendor on all planets to try and get business by exposure.

I am suprised by your annoyance.

perhaps you should petition the devs to give merchants a way to advertise in public like

1. BILLBOARDS (rent a billboard galaxy wide, 10,000 credits a day, see your business location in LIGHTS!)
2. Hired droid barkers (annoying)

ANy suggestions for alternatives?

Actually, yeah.

Use the existing bazaar terminals, and just legitimize the whole thing. The issue is with a) clutter and b) the fact that auctions simply don't happen and it's just sloppy.

Here's what they could do :

1) Eliminate the word "auction" from the bazaar totally

2) Make a new tab at the top of the bazaar "Advertising"

3) Charge merchants to put up advertisements exactly the way they are presented now (just give them a few options for a display icon)

This way, people could use the bazaar to actually buy things, or to read advertising.

We really do need more complex methods, as you said bilboards, etc - but this would be a (relatively) simple way to get the ball rolling.

Devs - is the Bazaar to be an advertising board - I think you'll find 98% of people do NOT like this - the other 2% do it

I think its probably more likely that 90% of people don't care at all mostly cause they never go to the bazaars, 8% do not like it and 2% do it.

First I must admit that I used to use the auctions on the bazaar to advertise my shop location. I considered it an advertising 'trick' rather than some sort of sinister exploit to screw over merchants.

Most people don't visit the bazaar much if at all nowadays. THe maximum value there is 6k. For experienced players not much can be bought for <6k. So most people go straight to player vendors since thats the only place to buy composite armor, good DX2 guns, X-wing chassis blueprints or crates of brandy. So advertising on the bazaar has minimal real impact.

If someone is looking for a shop, they do not go to the bazaar. They go straight to the map which has the vendor listings cause they know that is where shops are listed.

I'm glad that 90% of the populatioon doesn't go to the bazaar. you can find great deals if you spend a little time looking.

I do agree with the original post that once the 6k max is reached on a bazaar auction, the item should be sold and taken off the bazaar.

Shhhh!

Yes, I go to the bazaar and find great deals once in a while, but all of the "auctions" that are advertisements or are maxed out and say "Please send an email with b/o offer" make me mad. Plus, if these were stopped, there would be more database space.

Not entirely sure if this is correct or not, but I bid for an item on a bazaar auction and it shot up to 6 k and i was the "winner" but the auction continued to count down the time. A few day later I checked and the item was still showing withthe clock showing the time still left to run. The day I was due to "win" the seller removed it from the bazaar, I sent them a short email asking for my item, and was otld "its back on my shop venodr at "coords given" price 50 k!!!!!

It does leave a bad taste in a buyer's mouth. Can some "fix" be sorted ?
