Exactly. If anyone truly believes we haven't seen the beginning of the end for Merchant as an "Elite" profession - They are deluded. Very few things need to be vendored now. Loots and higher end weapons and armor.. "Specialty" items are now Vendor fodder - Just about everything else can be sold easier on the Bazaar.
The only thing that is left to fully destroy Merchant is an increase of the bazaar limit. I give that 3 to 6 months of "requests" and complaints to happen.

I'm not sure why so many people think the "merchant profession" is a profession at all. TBO it's just a subcategory of crafter. I don't know anyone who is just a dedicated merchant, doesn't make any of his own wares, strictly buys them off other people and resells them. And all the people who claim they worked really hard to become a merchant...well I don't understand how that is possible... I became a merchant and all I had to do was login every so often and make sure I didn't need to restock the bazaar. After enough time I had all the xp I needed. All the work I had to do was as a crafter.

I'm a master merchant atm and I dont' really have any need to keep that once I get all my vendors setup. Far as I know I can drop the skills and keep my vendors, advertising, etc. If they change anything they should fix the skill trees so you can't drop something that is in use.

If they made merchant a 0 skill point cost profession or just a lower cost profession I think most crafters would benefit with extra points to spend on other crafting professions.

I got a question for everyone... How the hell do ya use thisgalaxy wide vender search? Just type some search command into my spatial chat and hit enter or do i have to go to the bazaar to do it? I appologise for such a stupid question but i have been out of game for a few months and trying to get up to date. Alot has changed in the last 3 months since ive been gone. Hell more changes than from the time of launch and when i started playing up till 3 months ago seems like.

You have to access a public bazaar vendor. Now normally you have three tabs at the top. Click the far right one which says 'vendor search' I think. From there click the planet or galaxy area selection (since the region one doesn't seem to work) and then pick a sub-category and then start searching. Don't forget to hit 'next page' umpteenth million times (on some servers it is that many).

Don't bother trying to search the galaxy; I went page after page seeing the same items. Searching the planet you are currently on seems to work better. I have seem 'Region' work, but only in outpost-type star ports. In larger cities, I think that the city is the region, and there are no player vendors there.

I think the best way to give the Merchants some love would be to lower the starting bid for auctions so that it isn't the same as the maximum bid. Merchants did indeed get trampled on with the increased cap on the public bazaar terminals. Currently their strengths are 1)much more selling capacity than the 25 item limit 2)advertising on planetary map.

Since the minor exploit on the bazaar terminals allows non-merchants to advertise for 20 credits a week, taking that away will make the merchant advertising a bit more useful. Just my thoughts.

The only one you "keep" is the Efficiency bonuses. Those will remain as you have set them. Your vendors WILL stay dressed, but if you drop the Hiring line, you will NOT be able to change them. If you drop the Master Title AND the Vendor line, you will be limited severely. If you are at Item max and drop the skills, you will NOT be able to add additional items until below the item AND vendor limits. You do NOT keep all the perks when you drop Merchant - You USED to, now you don't.

I won't argue your perception of what Merchant is - It's your perception, and no amount of arguing or discussion will change that. Suffice to say that MANY Merchants do INDEED believe it to be it's own profession.

The problem I have with merchant is this, you can grind all the way up to master merchant, setup all your vendors just the way you want, get them registered and selling, then dump almost all of your merchant skills and still get to keep most of the benefits of the merchant tree. If you dress'd your vendor when you drop the skill that vendors clothes should disappear. If you hired your vendor with the hiring skills he should quit when you drop that skill. If you setup your vendor to get discounted usage fees u should lose those discounts when you drop that skill. And you should not be able to drop vendor boxes if you are using part of their stats.
I think the ability to hire certain species and dress them is a huge advantage for merchants vs crafters who have a terminal setup to sell with. But that advantage is gone when players can just drop the skill and continue to use merchants with custom clothes and specific species.
