Thread: Recycling as a source of income? *Longish*
The recyclers would be pretty useful for architects. We use grind quality metal and ore in large quantities. I much prefer to have ore in increments of 200k of the same type. Thats the amount required to do a full factory run of our structural modules which are the basic building block for structures.
So I could use a recycler to take a few misc. stacks of ore and make one bigger stack. This would be a convenience thing for me. Also when my factory runs are done I usually have various stacks of ore and metal in the 1k-20k size ranges that I consider 'scraps'. These aren't big enough to do factory runs but if I could combine them then I'd be able to use them.
Hide is another thing we use a fair amount for furniture and paintings. Its real nice to have a big stack of hide for paintings. I could go to the coronet bazaar and buy little scraps of hide for 1-2 cpu then make a big pile of processed hide.
SO the recyclers are useful. But I don't consider them really being good for millions of credits of return for my own uses.
If someone setup a business doing things like the above then they might be able to turn a profit. I often see people selling misc. scraps of metal or ore on resource vendors for cheap, someone could buy those and recycle them into useful big piles.
Most people wont pay 1 cr/unit to have the material recycled, so how would you re-coop your costs involved in the recyclers?
Well, I tried an exchange rate.
100k of materials got you 90k of recycled. Nobody like that either.
Looks like recyclers are going to be an item that the people who have a use for them will get,
and those who have no use for them will ignore.
Nice try on the devs part tho.

As a tailor, I think it would be really nice to get one to save me inventory space on hides and get bigger factory runs, but for profit, you'd have better luck selling CDEFs.Luckily, I bought a bunch of parts when they first came out for 6k as decorations for my shop before I knew what they even were.
I disagree, I find the metal and ore recyclers very useful.
