Hi. I've just set up a loan company on the chimeara server, take a look at it on the chimeara server forums or chimeara trade forums. Please feel free to post HERE your opinions of this. I hope it will be succesful but other than the risk of people not paying back etc. i already know about it.

Thanks

It's a good idea, but I will check it out.

Take collateral and if they do not pay you, you can sell that and make your money back.

Or you could create a verbal contract, take a screen shot of the chat bubble with the person and if they don't pay you back report them.

Taking collateral is a good idea as well.

Taking collateral is the ONLY way to go.

The trick will be finding people to loand a milion credits to who have something worth a million in collateral (since 99% of your people asking for money wont having spit to start with)

However..you may find a market in lending to up and coming crafters. That is you can require them to house their merchants in building that you own and/or require them to give you a % of their inventory up front.

Id say the crafters are the ones most likely to pay you back and the most likely to have something to offer you in collateral. I would not lend to the general public.

Ive thoght about this quite a bit...U end up being a pawn broker for useless or items of neglible demand (if u use collateral as a "contract"), cuz if the person borrowing the money has an item of value they could easily sell it for the credits they require. Plus there is no court of law in the SWG galaxy to verify and enforce legitimate contracts written or otherwise. Basically what Im saying is this; SWG does not have the infrastructure to support a successful loaning company, at least in my opinion...How do collect payment, How do enforce interest rates and then create an interest rate system similiar to the Federal Reserve or How do u send a dead beat borrower to a collection agency or force a property or asset lien? Maybe I think too much...But good luck with this idea.

I believe Kinshi has a good idea. perhaps not a loan, per-say, but a long-term investment. This could potentially pay off very well... If I ever go back to crafting or merchant, this is a good idea I may have to look into.

This idea is doomed to fail for a number of reasons.

1) Noobs will hound you and rob you. If they are genuine nooblets they will have no items to pawn.

2) people might use you to get rid of a load of hard to sell stuff. If the stuff is hard to sell, then it will be hard to sell for you as well.

3) Most players (excluding the noobs) dont need to borrow money as there are quite a lot of ways to make it fairly easy if you watch how the game works and capitalise on money making ways such as space or hunting groups.

4) SOE might not accept your verbal agreement screenshots and or there could be some hidden clause in the thing we agree to every time we play that states its not allowed ect. I havnt read it either so dont ask.

5) If SOE do accept and punish the people that break your verbal agreement, They might not be too keen on going about and punishing every noob that tries to rip you off. /shrug

6) as with any great ideas that people come up with, Some sad players will do their best to spread lies about your buisness just to spoil your fun. I dont know why these type of people even exist in life.

7) Its easier to put your name on the ignore list and forget who you are than it is to pay money back.

8) If sucessful, you will need a rather fat wallet. Which could turn into a very small wallet if people rip you off. Such events could make it hard for you to keep up with peoples needs.

9) If trading items in as collateral, then it may be hard to determine the value of a bunch of items, such as a backpack full of furniture i.e paintings ect.

10) It could cause you stress which might put you off playing the game.

In the real world, If people dont pay their loans back they either get taken to court and prosecuted or a group of people called "loan sharks" come around and gank them senseless. All depending on the type of people you have borrowed the money off. In SWG this isnt the case. You cant take someone to court and as much as id love to, you cant call up your loan sharks on anybody and get them to kick their teeth in.

Its a good hearted idea, just has its flaws. I hope if you decide to do it, none of the above occur

While most of us could imagine the ways it could fail, why not let them try and then report on the results.

Yes, you would have to believe in the general goodness of human beings to do this, but it can be done... do not be so pesimistic.

I tried something similiar. I offered noobs money to get me creature resouces that I can't harvest. They just take the money and you never see them again.
