Thread: Questions from a Newbie about a Template

Hello, I am new to SWG and after fooling around with Character Builders online for a bit and looking at the limited information I was able to find, I believe I have come up with a character that would be fun for me to play. Basically, I would like to play something along the lines of the Beastlord class in Everquest, a class that melees alongside its pet with some limited healing ability. My template and questions follow.
Trandoshan, Wookie, or Zabrak
Master Creature Handler
Master Swordsman or Fencer or TKA or Pikeman
Novice Medic, First Aid 4, Diagnostics 2, OChem 1, Pharmacology 1
Novice Scout, Exploration 4, Hunting 4, Trapping 4
Novice Brawler, 2h 4 or 1h 4 or Unarmed 4 or Polearm 4
Firstly, will this work? Keep in mind, I am completely new here and just working from my imagination and information I can gleam from various websites. Are there any blatant flaws? Anything else I might need to think about? I am unsure of the distribution of points in the Medic area, and also as to whether or not the lack of Master Brawler would be a major disadvantage, especially.
Secondly, which of the species I have listed would be best for a meleeing pet class? I know Wookies have great stats and a bonus to Trapping and Taming but cannot wear armor, so I am unaware as to how that might impact melee ability. I have heard about Zabraks having certain special abilities that are good, and Trandoshans are suppossedly a very balanced race with regen and a bonus in Unarmed, should I choose to go that route.
Third, as you can see I have all four branches of the Brawler tree listed, though I only plan on pursuing one branch. My question is which branch would work best with this template? I really like the idea of all four branches so I have no idea which one to pursue. I would like to be a mean sort of character, capable of dealing with whatever might be thrown at me and coming out of it, even if it may not be pretty. I see myself as a wandering soul type, a hardened character who knows much of the universe and just kinda shows up randomly to offer a mysterious helping hand. Basically though, I am open to whichever would make my character the most useful.
