Thread: we cant hit while running: A myth
I just want to squash a myth here so we can all get on to figuring out what we do need to do to help fix the melee vs. ranged problem.
We CAN hit while moving.
Everyone who doubts me, do this simple experiment.
Find a simple mob. A hermit Spider for example. Stand out of melee range from it. Type '/attack' to initiate combat. Now hit your autorun button. Now run in circles around and around the spider until, guess what, you killed it! And your still autorunning...so you just attacked while moving.
I just thing this needs to be shown to everyone so that we can stop asking the Devs to implement 'hitting while running' when there probably scratching there heads going, 'Hmm...seems to work to me?'
The real question now is, what should they fix? Easier to judge range? More range? ... I dunno...it's up to you guys from here.
*If your a fencer, you've probably seen this post there, as I am a fencer and posted this there too*
Yeah, now try it against players. That's what people are complaining about.
But you're right, people need to specify that this is a PvP issue, not PvE.
The PvP problem is server-side delay. You see players as they were about 2 seconds ago, so by the time you see them running the server sees them as already being 10+ meters ahead of you. On your screen, you're in range, to the server, you're not.

Yes, they do need to specify this is a PVP issue.
And thus they need to stop assuming everything is about PVP.......
I'm not so sure about this guys, I use autorun as a basic tactic while being trained on a mob, and there have been times where a mob has run from me, -even in a stop and go pattern- and while AF I will spam an attack, any attack over and over and get no hits, even when the mob stops for a second and I appear to be in range, the mob starts moving again and since I am a slow pikeman, next thing I know I'm on the move chasing again before I could perform an attack. Now mind you I have my combat window open to see what is happening, I'm not getting any "That target is out of range" messages or what not, all I'm getting is my moves that I'm spaming for good measure in my attack que just depleting one at a time. I don't finally get an attack off until the mob actually stops long enough for my character to set himself in an attack posture to perform a technique. so there is obviously something that has to be addressed there.
I don't know, any one else notice this, give me your thoughts
Yes you can hit while running from a target. No, you cannot hit if you're running down a target. You were able to hit the spider because he was chasing you.

Yes you can, I do running Knockdowns while chasing kiters all of the time, read above post.
Here is the technique, this applies to both PvP and PvE
1) Learn how to follow your opponent VERY CLOSELY... I mean, ONTOP of them. This is an acquired skill through experience, go practice
2) Now that you are good at that, take your knucks off
3) While chasing them closely spam your desired special (we'll use KD as the example since this is the move you are likely going to want to be using anyway). the reason for this is to ensure you have a special ready to fire off when that small window of opportunity opens up where you can hit them.
4) Now that your opponent is crying on the ground use your favorite specials to finish them off ( i like head hit or unarmedhit3).
5) If your opponent (PvP) stands up to run away from you then you need to go out and train more... this should NEVER happen.
I'm sorry i got a bit confused, thought I was on the TKA forum... I guess that is obvious in my post.
sorry, no experience with the other melee classes, but I would assume this works for them just as well if not better.
For me, just plain movement hasnt been a problem, but rather when I autofollow a target as it limps away. When a mob is hurt badly, they often dash away a short distance and then begin walking slowly. While I am /following them I run up right near, but as it is with follow I begin walking as the distance becomes very close. And since the monster is walking as well, I don't make any progress that way, we both are walking for whatever reason, and I don't seem to be hitting it with attacks while this is going on. The only way I have to fix the problem is to manually run "into" and through the mob if not a bit in front of him and wait for him to pass in range. Doing that I can hit the thing walking away from me, but not with autofollow.
Never did pvp yet though, im just saying against npc's.
