Thread: My two issues: Berserk and Master Brawler

Personally, I have only 2 major issues with the Brawler class:

1) Berserk 2 (obviously) needs an upgrade. 75pts at novice is great, not at master...

2) Master Brawler should have more skill mods. +5 to toughness/accuracy/speed isn't enough... For 48 skill points, there really should be more skill mods, maybe +10 or +15.

Anyway, just my .02

Comments?

I agree about the skill mods. For the amount of points (and time) MB takes to get, the end result is pretty lacking (in terms of bonuses).

I think in addition they should give us +10 posture change defense (down), +10 knockdown defense, +10 dizzy defense, +10 stun defense, +10 intimidate defense, +10 blind defense. And, maybe, +5 Combat Equilibrium.

In addition, I think it should give us +10 melee defense instead of +5. The rest of the bonuses are fine as is.

I think the real bonus to master brawler is toughness and, well... Intimidate 2, and +whatever to intimidate. I like intimidate. It's quite nice.

Ah yes, Master Brawler should give all those other bonuses as well. Forgot about those heh

Lunge 2 is a nice perk too

But the berserk 2 issue is really a let down...

i just recently made master brawler, and yes it was a long hard battle. i had to take medic so i could survive unarmed after they took the vk away. i took scout and artisian in order to harvest and craft resources. i now have 15 available skill points left. i'm looking at master brawler and thinking... what was the point?
sure i have a cool title and i can fight well in hand to hand combat but now that i'm going for novice smuggler i can't believe how easy it is to kill things with a pistol. i'm thinking to myself... why have i been busting my behind at brawling when marksman is sooo much easier?
so i'm asking you all what is the next step for the master brawler?
currently i'm working on smuggler and contemplating tk artist but since i only have 15 skill points left won't i eventually have to surrender my master brawler title in order to make room for additional skills?

any thoughts/ suggestions?

Str8shootur, to tell the truth, I don't see much point in master brawler at all. The title is fairly rare, sure, but thats all you really gain with it. Let's face it, it's not an elite profession with all the bonuses to hit, damage, and defense that come with it. And it's sort of inherently redundant. Sure, you can pick up and use virtually and melee weapon that comes along, but so what? How many of them do you need? What, in a game where melee ranges are all pretty much the same, do you gain by switching from one hand sword to polearm?

My problem is with the presence of berserk. Not how it works, but that it's there at all. Is everybody of nordic descent? Is everyone inclined to yell "Odin!" as they charge into battle, frothing at the mouth, and expecting to be escorted to Valhalla when they die? It's nice to have something that gives a bit of a damage boost, particularly when your starting out and can definitely use it. But most of the martial arts I studied sort of had this philosophy that nobody needed to discuss, if you lost control of yourself in a fight, you pretty much deserved what you got. Samurai were not noted for loosing their cool in battle, nor were most martial artists. From what I've gathered from watching the movies, and the few books I've read, it was a philosophy that was generally put forth by the jedi as well, who, lets face it, were some of the best melee fighters around. They'd have to be, to be willing to walk into a gun, er blaster fight carrying a sword. Personally, I don't use it, simply from a role standpoint, but it would be nice if there were something I could use instead, because I sure could use it.

And on a side note, a flamethrower was actually designed for taking out light targets. Specifically unarmored people. It's pretty useless against a tank, particularly modern, enviromentally sealed ones. Against people its great, it's area affect, it does severe damage to the targets, continues to damage them after the initial hit, can spread to collatoral targets as the initial victims run around, has beneficial secondary affects (particularly in enclosed spaces), can temporarily blind those it doesn't hit providing cover for allies to move forward, and is a great psychological weapon as well. Using it on a gnort, or a dancer, may seem overkill, but honestly, if someone lights you on fire, are you going to be thinking about much else at the time?
