Thread: Temporary unarmed solution

After many many gripes to friends and groupmates, i've finally found a temporary solution to the mega gimped unarmed tree.



I was grouped with a few friends in endor(like we do almost every night..i've been on endor almost as much as i've been on naboo). My friend is a master pikesman, doing insane damage(rightfully so), and my other friend wants to be pistoleer. I'm the unarmed one. Now everyone knows endor has high level creatures, so taking one down should yield some decent weapon xp. Everyone else is getting at least 1k per creature....I'm stuck getting around 100 or less PER ENDORIAN CREATURE. My damage compared to everyone else is HORRIBLY low. Then one of my friends decides to go polearm. He's at polearm 3, i'm at unarmed 3. I was watching the combat spam, and i observed that he did about 3-4x more damage than me and attacked about as fast as i did, if not faster. It's totally not fair. One time i saw he hit for about 1.3k damage!!! I get excited when i hit for over 200 damage. Then after about 30 minutes of constant fighting in endor, he tells me he has gotten about 16k polearm xp already....i was like "OMFG! I haven't even gotten 1k yet!"



So here is the point. First of all, i can barely solo any creatures worth fighting because i will either take too much damage or die before i kill them. I can barely group because i do so little damage that by the time the monster is taken out, i did maybe 500 -1k damage to it. But then i realized something. I equipped vibro knuckles( a weapon i'm not even certified in), removed all my special moves except the /attack command and /berserk command, and in every fight, just berserked and wailed away. I was attacking much faster doing consistently low damage, BUT i did get xp!


Soooo equipping a wepaon you aren't certified in will yield more damage than your normal unarmed attacks...what kind of messed up sh** is that. Something is definetly wrong here. Can the devs at LEAST give us some kind of weapon for the unarmed tree that does less dmg than the vibro knuckles? And here's another thought. How about different kind of knuckles for Teras Kasi's that do different type of damages?? Right now the only thing we can do is kinetic, wich alot of things have resist for. There should be electro fists and pyrofists and stuff like that. /rant

lol People are still complaining about unarmed, I see.

Man...you actually have to work at something now and it's the end of the world. Get good knucklers and use berzerk. On Naboo, I was getting Rabid Shaupauts and Spiked Krevols (350+ exp each) before I was at expert. Moved to Tatooine and made Master in about half a day. All this without a pet, droid, or group.

it's not the problem of unarmed... No, even though you have to work harder on unarmed than any other weapon... It's the fact that i was more effective using a weapon i'm not certified in, then fighting with nothing, wich i'm SUPPOSED to be certified in. Now tell me that's how it's supposed to be.

What is the problem ? I started a new character Saturday evening, I should hit Unarmed 4 tonight. And expect to hit TKA novice in the beginning of the week. I am a working person and play a couple of hours a day during the week, I must admit I played a lot on Sunday, but I am also Pistol 3, which was raised during this time. I did give a 2.1 speed Vibro Knuckler and a decent Scout Blaster to the character from my main account.


Less than a week and a half to go to novice TKA is very reasonable, I really don't see the horrible problem. I agree that it would of taken 2 days back when we were certified for Vibro Knucklers, but those days are gone, learn to live with it. Last detail: did this solo....

....doesn't anyone ever thoroughly read posts anymore? Once again.. THE PROBLEM is not about unarmed itself. THE PROBLEM is that you can be more effectiving using a weapon you aren't certified in than using your bare fists wich you SHOULD be certified in. That is backwards don't you think?

I think a simple solution to this would be to upgrade the base speed of the unarmed attack itself (not the speed modifier which also affects knucklers), theres no reason that picking up a bulky vibratingblade-like thing is going to make you attack faster than if you were using your bare hands.


I'd say change the speed of the base unarmed attack to 2 seconds instead of 3. There would still be knucklers that were faster (my pair is 1.9), but at least it would be closer to realism and it would help people who are taking the long climb to unarmed 4.


It would also give TKA some reason not to use knucklers other thanforstyle.Honestly the skill is called unarmed, so why is everyone forced to use vibro weapons if they want to advance?

If certified you get the speed AND superior damage, I don't see the problem of it still being better than no weapon. Of course any hand wield weapon which gives you better speed than without a weapon is ridiculous in all cases, but we are in a game here.


I am too slow, let me take this heavy weapon, ahhh now I am much faster..... Certified or not it makes no sense, but sometimes fun is more important than making sense...

I didn't know there was a weapon worth equipping for unarmed. I do not qualify for anything yet than I know of, and I am lv3 unarmed. I agree that it sucks. I sort of gave up unarmed because it just takes too long. What I do now is kick and punch a lair until something comes out, shoot the creatures, and then continue to kick and punch the lairs until after I drink a coke and eat some candy, the lair finally falls. That's how I have been moving unarmed up. It's ridiculously slow, and in my opinion you should at least be able to use vibro knucklers after you get to lv 4. Getting through novice TKA without vibro knucklers will take me at least 3 months, I know it. It's a shame... That's why I went pistoleer/creature handler as well on the side. Otherwise the game would be no fun...

Sure do seem to be a lot of people lately claiming UA is fine... why do they all mention using VKs to level up the tree?



VKs can only be wielded by TK Novice and above. The UA tree did not recieve the damage bonus given TKAs, their damage over time is in fact lower than othermelees at that level. Having only recently acquired Master Brawler, I think I can say fairly certainly, that 1 handed, 2 handed, and Polearm all did similar damage over time(with average weapons)to what I did with above average VKs (34-156). Unequipping VKs made it not even close.... and there is no VK option any longer.



What it comes down to is there's no reason it should take significantly longer to ramp up the UA tree than any other base class tree. We aren't talking an elite class here, it's not supposed to be a grind.

Actually, Vibroknucklers can be weilded by anyone, you are certified and get full damage at TKA novice, but with some 2.1 or better knuckers, you will be hitting for 10% less damage than with bare hands but hitting twice as often. Certification seems only to limit damage and not speed....

I must say I agree with alot of the stuff said here (both sides to the arguement). The two sides are:

My attack should do the same damage as all other melee. [i]Wrong, it should not.[/i]
I should have more weapons to use. [i]Wrong, this is just plain stupid..My unarmed character should be able to use weapons.[/i]

[b]Game Players:[/b] My punch should be quicker than all other forms of melee. [i] Wrong, all attacks should be balanced at each level (i.e 1Handed level 2 does the same damage as unarmed level 2). [/i]

It is a tough decision, balance against fun...I must admit I am daunted by the amount of XP needed to reach TK artist and can see unarmed becoming the [i]unused skill that smugglers and commandos have to grind out.[/i] This would be a shame as the brawl is the best part of any fight.

Lets hope some of us stick it out.

I dunno, I've been using VK's and berserk... but I threw in novice medic to the mix. (good armor helps)
