Thread: Idea to improve melee defense give melee's an incentive to wear armor!

Hear is an idea! Since melee's are supposed to be the tanks of the game why not give them some kind of incentive to wear armor. Like maybe a 5% reduction to encumbrance at novice and then go all the way up to 50% reduction in encumbrance when you hit master Swordsman, Fencer, Pikeman or TKA (maybe less for TKA since their toughness is so high).

Melee classes should wear armor. But right now in the game most of them do not due to the fact that armor is too encumbering and using specials with armor on is a death wish. Also most melee cant even wear a full suit of good armor due to the fact they put most their stats in their HAM pools.

Here is a ruff draft of how it shoud go

Novice Brawler - 5% reduction in encumbance of armor

Master Brawler- 10% (for a total of 15%)

after training in that many weapon styles one would think you develop a little agility and strength

Novice Swordsman/Fencer/Pikeman/TKA - 5% (so 10% for normal 20% if your master brawler)

Each skill box of defense -5% (for a total of 20% here, now 40% if you have master brawler, 30% otherwise)

Master Swordsman/Fencer/Pikeman/TKA - 10%

(so at master you get 40% reduction to encumbrance when wearing armor, if you also have master brawler then you will have a 50% reduction to encumbrance.)

What do you guys think about this idea? any comments or other suggestions are apreciated.

I like the sound of this. It would give brawlers an advantage over ranged users, and make all my hard work to get to master worth more than one or two skills.

No disadvantage that they didnt have before, and i'm not saying this should be the only fix, but implement it alond with other defensive bonuses.

It sounds good, but how about a special move efficiency stat, sort of like you said, but to directly reduce the special move HAM costs, the 50% encumbrance reduction won't matter too much unless you have REALLY high encumbrance armor.

Well it sounds like a good idea and I for one am all for it. I have given up master smuggler and marksmen to devote my in game life to melee. The truth is we need something. We are always the first ones incapped, we are always the one suffering from the most wounds, and the ones taking the most Battle Fatigue. The improvements to our defensive ablitys is vital. The toughness yea they are useful and we get more passive bonuses then other classes being ranged and melee defense. But, since they don't ever tell u such and such missed you due to ur passive defenses it is hard to know if they are working correctly. I just don't know if they are really gonna pay us much attention, although from what I have read they are showing most melee some love with the next patch, by lowering the special move costs of all but the 1H style. I think this is a good start to making melee better, but they are gonna have to show us some more love, like lowering ham costs on the weapons we use, and adding additonal tanking ablities,as well as rethinking their A.P. policy especially for TK's and 1H styists who atm get Light, for TK's with vibros and none for 1H. Maybe they should add a rapier or something since they are fencers after all and give it at least a light A.P. rating.
