it DOES take forever and a day. its an ubserd jump in amount of points. 1000 pts, 5000 pts, 15000 pts....then jumps to 70,000 pts??? F_ck me, thats just crazy... gotta go fight freaking Krate dragons and Sh1t. thats just...freaking WOW! i know that this is a way to get Commando but **edit** what about us wanting Tera Kasie (or how ever you spell it)
Teräs Käsi (alt + 0228 if you really care)
As for those of us who want it? We sit and suffer.
I use Vibroknuckles. I am not a Teras Kasi novice. I am working towards it though. Why do I use them? Easy. On Endor, I hunted without them, and was getting anywhere from 49 to 105 xp, thereabouts. After I got them (1.6 delay) I was drawing anywhere from 400+ to over 1k, and 125k to make TK novice, well, that XP jump is absolutely incredible and handy.
I've used a firearm once in the game, ONCE. To pull an NPC to me, so their yellow/Red con buddies wouldn't come and wipe the floor with me, as so often happens when grinding missions for my chosen faction. I attack one, and the others open up on me with blasters. Incap, run off, heal, come back and lay down the pain. Most times it's one incap, other times it's more.
The point of the matter is, I realize that guns are more dangerous than bare fists, and in reality, it makes sense that someone dumb enough to attack a group of fully armed individuals, while they themselves are unarmed, is doing nothing more than provoking the pain.
This however, is a fantasy game, and as a game, the fairness factor issues in, and my paltry 155 damage off a special attack (I'm at UA 4 here) is easily equaled or outstripped by a novice marksman with a CDF.
PLEASE FIX BRAWLERS!
For those who say "You picked it, deal with it, or pick up a new profession." All I can say is this. It's a game, and my character, which I ROLEPLAY, is studying to become a Teräs Käsi monk. Why? Because it's interesting to roleplay, and it makes the character fun for me. Though I have to say it certainly wears down on me when a person who, by all rights, is trained to be able to end a fight as quickly, cleanly, and effeciently as possible cannot do so.
Also, to those same people, let's say, for instance, you are a Commando. (Not poking at Commandos here, just an example) And the Developers nerf that profession to the degree that continuing to play that character is no longer fun, all anyone else can say is "You picked it, deal with it, or pick up a new profession." Yet you've invested a long time most likely, building up to that profession, grinding like the rest of us. Do you really want to drop it all and go to something else? No. I wouldn't in your place, there's too much invested in it. Time, money, etc. When you work for something, it has a value, and for that whatever to lose value by the actions of another, well... it certainly makes things seem pretty bad, and rightly so.
Therefore, I will not "Quit complaining and pick up a new profession." I will grind my missions like everyone else. I will grind them into the ground and this time next month, when I finally make TK novice, I'll know I worked hard for it, and it'll mean something. What else that means is the new person who just created their Marksman a few days ago, and is already a (pistoleer, Carabiner, Rifleman) is exactly that.
I'm not begging for classes to be nerfed, no one wants that. I'm just asking for Brawler to be fixed. If Teräs Käsi is as pain-in-the-*edit*ed as Brawler, I will not become a "Blaster and Pet" clone, I will not degrade a character with a rich and continually developing background, I will likely stop playing. As much as I love Star Wars, and I do, a lot, I'd rather be playing the Tabletop RPG where I can actually remain equal to the other PC's, instead of waste $14.99 a month on something that might be visually stunning, but otherwise useless to me.
That's just my opinion on things though.

Is it harder now then ever before they upgrade berserk a bit but now the only thing keep me alive (Vibro Knucklers) have been taken away until I hit TKA I'm working on unarmed four and have been doing so an hour a day for the past month will the time to upgrade never come (I'm not even half way up the 70k) and being without medic skills and these bleed shots EVERYONE is using I feel hopeless.... : (
I'm halfway up the TK track, and lemme tell you -- it's been a long, hard road. At this level, though, people start to say things to me like "WOW, you ripped the HECK out of that thing!" and "HOLY COW, you're a JUGGERNAUT!"
Used to, all I'd hear was "Leave the lair for our brawler, he needs the XP." ![]()
The primary reason, I believe, is that the Novice Brawler simply has zilch for defense. We're up there in the middle of it, burning our precious HAM away on special moves in a vain attempt to do enough damage to merit a cut of the XP. Meanwhile, the mobs are munching away at our HAM as well.
I used to have the profession "Master Corpse" listed in my sig. Medics used to see me as an XP farm with legs.
This is actually an old topic; it's been like this since beta. Since then, we've gotten some good damage upgrades and some special-move cost reduction. After those tweaks, I started feeling almost like a valid profession. A contender, almost.
Of course, our function in a party is to tank. It's always been to tank. Also, we've always been outclassed by the much-tougher creatures that a creature handler can offer up to tank instead of us. They have more HAM, can hit things that are moving, and above all they do less damage than us (which means more for the rest of the party). So we're not only inefficient in our partyrole, we're outright undesirable.
I hear-tell that the devs are working on something nutty like a "/tank" command, in which all of our passive defenses are temporarily boosted. Personally, I think that's nuts. I think the last and most important change they could make right now is just to change the rate in which our Melee Defense and Ranged Defense skills are gained as we level up.
That's all they'd need to do to make me happy. If they're worried about people cobbling together class combos for no other reason than to stack those skills, then make the Brawler-Elite classes have like "Unarmed Melee Defense," "Polearm Melee Defense," and so on -- keeping the same mechanic as the "Toughness" skills.
That's the history lesson and what I've learned from it.
To answer the original question of the thread, though: how do you level your Brawler track quicker?
Find the creatures that are easiest for you to kill, then grind-grind-grind away on them. Solo, too, so no one else will be cutting in on your XP. That is the most important "trick."
What am I hunting nowadays, you may ask? Well, I won't answer, sorry. I don't want competition for my prey. I'll tell you this, though: do NOT fight social creatures that have ranged attacks. Find something big, juicy, and with no regard for its fellow creatures.
If you have a medic friend, then bring him/her along and the bothof you can level all the quicker. The medic will have a bodyguard and you'll have a near-infinite supply of Health and Action.
Hope that helps.
Im doing my Brawler unarmed 4 now. This is the best way I find, but im also a CH as well. Go to your local noobie field, get a low level pet out, send pet in to attack, wait for it to knock a little bit off the enemy, then start attacking it. This way I get around 120 CH and the same again for Unarmed. Sure it doesnt sound like a lot, but the plusses are that you will never get killed as you are killing low level creatures, there are lots of respawns in noob areas as well. Its as boring as hell, but it works, and im almost half way into my box now, as as well as leveling my CH skills from using a good baby pet with armour, something like a rock beetle.
Im TKM a good way to do it is to bleed and poison if you have any of these in your other skills nither of the 2 take exp away from your kill.
Have you got 5K spare?
If so, go to starports/med centres looking for a master doctor and get yourself buffed on all 6 Health and Action stats
As soon as you get your buffs get yourself to some isolated spot away from other players and with a good supply of low level monsters and fight the critters near the city solo - fynocks, dung mites and so on. Try to avoid Con Red things. You can beat them but they slow you down
I'd advise not grouping - against weak monsters ranged characters will probably kill them before you reach them
You get into a cycle of Harvest, Tab, /follow, /attack - wait a couple of seconds - repeat
You can use specials instead of /attack but you barely need to unless it's con yellow or red, the rest die very fast
You get 50-100 exp per kill but never stop and don't need to camp or heal
Last time I did it I got 25K unarmed, reaching Unarmed 4 and 20K one-handed (on my way to Master Brawler). The harvesting is entirely optional but my BE friend was very pleased with the 1K avian meat and 1K insect meat I gave him ![]()
I have 2 sp into TK now, and I used to complain how ga - ey the entire brawler proffesion was.
Then I hit TK.
UNARMED 4 - 100-150 DMG Per Second
TK NOVICE - 250-300 DMG Per Second + Unarmed 2 (1000+ DMG over 2 Seconds)
POWER LVL 1 - 300 - 400 DMG Per Second +Dizzy (Better then KD if you use Lunge after their dizzy)
Yeah, Marksmen DO start out a lot better, but in the end TKAs KICK SO MUCH ahase. TKM do like (correct me if im wrong) 1000 dmg PER SECOND and have Unarmed 3 (like 4000 dmg) and Knockdown 2 (KD and Dizzy)
My point is, it REALLY REALLY is ALL worthwhile. Plus, you get all the holocrons cause your up in the front baby!!!
