Thread: Shooters vs Melee

I have been looking at the def mods for pistoleer and rifle and noticed how they recieve more def mods than the elite melee professions, that includes melee defense too!!!!


I think that is kinda ridiculous. But I now see why there are so few pure melee character.


Is it meant for a rifleman to have a better def vs melee than say a master pikeman or swordsman or Brawler? Same goes for pistoleer.


Well, melee is dead, I have come to this realization when engaged in PvP. Hopefull the profession update (phase four of the combat redux) will address this.

Yes, I think it is right for Riflemen to have a higher melee defence then a Brawler. Main reson is - Brawler can fight back close range, and a Rifleman has hardly any chance at all, using a long range weapon. Pistoleer shouldn't though, they work quite well up close...

If you get lucky enough to come within melee range of a rifleman, he should NOT be better of than say a master pikeman. The rifleman has all the advantages at range, and should not be better of than any melee class up close.

Don't forget that rifleman take 2.5 times melee damage when they have the rifle equiped.


They may have higher modifiers, but the certainly cannot tank. They are the profession most vulnerable to melee damage, regardless of what their modifiers might suggest.


However, if you stack the rifleman profession with TKA, you will have absolutely insane ranged & melee defense; over 200 each. You still have to switch to unarmed or a VK when the action gets close, though.

Yes, very true. I am 2-0-0-0 in rifle and I can get incap'ed by passing rabbits if they walk to close to me. It's crazy how fast I take damage. Is it fair though? You bet. I'm nothing more than long range artillery. Not to mention I'm something like -5 billion to try and actually hit you with my rifle when you're standing right beside me. Jeez I might as well just shoot myself and save you the trouble of pommeling me.

Rifleman (errr riflepersons) REQUIRE good melee types to keep us in the clear so we can laydown our firepower.

This is either no longer true or soon will not be true. Damage multipliers for carrying various weapons were taken out (I did some protesting of this, to no avail).

I am a pure melee fighter and proud of it


I also am one of the leaders of a pure melee guild on Kauri


Speaking of which if any of you are on kauri....Sorry got distracted never mind

I wish I was in a pure melee PA, there is no such thing (I believe) on Ahazi. However, most ppl have an uber melee template with fencer and pistoleer. I prefer to just stay all melee.


Now, as StGabe stated, there is not or wont be soon a 2.5x modifier, that will be exchanged for an accuracy modifier. I know ppl hate that but I have been thinking. This would kind of negate the def mods that the shooters get as you are more likely to hit.


My experience in PvP where both contestents are fully buffed, stuffed and drugged landing hits are nice but the status effects that come with them seemt to be more important. Things like dizzy and blind now have a place as fights tend to last longer as everyone is so "uber" with armor and def mods. I have been able to use warcry and then will immediately intimedate and put as many states and bleeds as I can then comence to using a high damage hit. With the buffed stats regenerating so fast and the actual HAM being so high this seems to be necessary. The states you place on your oppenent make it that much harder for them to do the same to you as they are now blind, intimedated or whatever. Of course this makes landing lunge 2 that much more likely, hehe. So, i fear this will get nerfed in the long run as masters in the respective professions will be landing their kd's and dizzy with more frequency.

Yes marshal its a great thing


But I am starting to lose faith in the ability of a melee PA to survive -sigh-


ANd I refuse to allow ranged into it. I will quit the PA before i let ranged into it

ummm... did you say melee is dead? I dunno about your server but mine is atleast half melee now with TKA's and Fencer's owning just about anyone. Pikeman is broken, Swordsman is decent and Fencer and TKA is above and beyond any ranged profession with the exception of Pistoleer.

Not true!!


Riflemen are awesome, shooting once a second!!! At the mind! Incaping two players with ONE shot.


Carabineers too, using KD nonstop with no timer (I watched a carabineer test this on his doc friend, I was shocked)


So yeah, your right. Melee is way over powered. They neeed to be nerfed so they have no def mods period then take away their specials. They should just be targets for the shooters, that seems fair, right?


You see, a melee avatar has to spend ALL his points in melee professions just to come close to a master of any shooting profession (except BH).


I have now spent all my points in the melee professions. I am:


Master Brawler
Master Fencer
TKA 2/3/0/4
Sword 0/4/4/4
Pike 0/0/4/0
I have one skill point left, no scout no medic. Can not deal with shooters in PvP so I dont, just PvE.

I'm a Teras Kasi/swordsmen maybe a fencer not sure yet


But all my fighting professions will be melee
