SirVimes, the chef correspondent, quoted us:
Defensive Modifiers will have a hard cap with profession template stacking. Defense stacking will no longer stack beyond the intended combat calculation limits causing the defender to be nigh invulnerable.
OK
Does this apply to all of the following?:
1) Melee defence and Ranged defence lines from multiple professions
2) Pistoleer Dodge + Fencer Dodge (or any other similar pairing) and their chance to work with Centre of Being
3) Defences against status effects (like knockdown)

The change affects Dodge / Block / Counterattack. Even if it affected the Defense vs Dizzy etc I don't believe you can get it too far above 125 anyway (unlike Dodge etc). Melee and Ranged defense are not capped.

I can't remember if it was the previous correspondent, or possibly TH who said this, but there is always a 10% chance of success in the status attacks. In such a case, any Defense vs. mods have no reason to be over +90.

Well that sucks! However, my Carbineer/Swordsman template will still be cool because of all the new knockdown/dizzy area attacks that Carbineers will get. Pistoleer/Fencers will be nerfed hard but atleast they still have their defense vs. stats that will remain the same. TKA/Rifleman will still be uber l33t though.

maybe im misunderstanding that dev quote but instead of hard-capping it why not just give the defensive bonuses to the weapon thats equipped. For example, if you're using a pike then only the pikeman defensive bonuses would apply...its not that hard to figure out.

the reason you can't just give the defenses of the weapon equipped is that this is supposed to be a skill based game. This means that you should be able to dabble and pick up bonuses from other professions that will help you be a better fighter/explorer/whatever. If you made it to where a pikeman only had pikeman defenses, you'd have a class based game. This wouldn't help the flavor of the month thing either, but rather make everyone flock to one or two professions.
