At the moment, Pikes is the weakest class when it comes to tanking. Pikeman get decent defenses, but because of the accuracy and speed on the current most powerful weapon, the Long Vibro Axe, it gives pikes somewhat of a handicap.
It should still work though, if you do it right. Pikes was the only combat profession I had for a short period of time later last year, and I was able to fight Nightsisters....I just couldn't run into a large group of them and start hacking away. It is a lot better if you keep the defense trees from TKA or Fencer and combine it with Master Pikes. I think that will still leave you with enough skill points left over to keep Master Creature Handler.

thanks for the reply do you think pikes will still be handycapped after the curb tho ?
the template i was thinking was MCH/MPM/4-0-0-0 TKA/ novice medic if enough left to help with pet healing
mostly for solo/GCW but after the curb hopefully even a little PvP
i have been away for a while and not sure of the changes that are going to take place thats why i ask and have always been interested in pikeman

Cut creature Handler, do Pikes, TKM.
Or keep CH and do CH-Rifles, let your pet tank while you hammer away.
