Brawler Archive

So I finally got around to creating a brawler, my intention being that I'd move up the Polearm tree to become a Pikeman (among other non-combat things). Thing is, as we all know, you start with a survial knife. What do I need to use to move up the Polearm side of things? I tried buying a wooden staff and a couple of other things, but I keep getting the message that says, "You will suck if you use this. Please stop now." Okay, not really, but...

I do suck when I use these things. I can't kill anything at all. Seriously. I can't even put a dent into anything. So how else do I move up the polearm tree without any certifications starting out. Sorry to be so dumb, but I really don't get this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Go outside any one of the cities and find yourself some NPC's and kill them till one drops a wooden staff. Voila you've got yourself something to progress up the Polearm tree.

Also, you might wanna try the bazaar, you could probably find a wooden staff there for cheap.

Just noticed that you had stated that you did buy a wooden staff, you sure you didn't have like a reinforced metal staff? I always got that message from the reinforced metal staff. But, since it was all I had I did the reinforced metal staff until I was hurtin pretty bad on one or multiple of my HAM then I'd finish off the NPC with my unarmed or whatever I fancied.
