Thread: New Unarmed Brawler

I want to start a new character as an unarmed brawler - probably a Wookie since I'm a bit of a traditionalist. I have a few questions:

1) What equipment should I have? Do brawlers start with some sort of unarmed "weapon" like brass knuckles? Cause I tried a Wookie Brawler started as an artisan for the gear, and then trained as brawler before leaving town, and I couldn't inflict damage.

2) What planet/city should I start? I've discovered fairly quickly some places are just better for early adventuring than others, but I don't know where I really should be starting.

Thanks.

(I also think it's funny that the dictionary on this boards spell checker doesn't include Wookie)

How is a wookiee Unarmed brawler traditional?

Right now, unarmed can use Vibro Knucklers from the very beginning. Though it looks like this may change, soon. Apparently, there's talk of Knuckler certification at Teras Kasi Novice so regular unarmed brawlers are out of luck.

I found Naboo pretty easy with nunas, chupas and many other low end creatures. As you progress, you can fight tougher creatures or move on. Tatooine has more upper end mobs, but also plenty of low end things to kill.

I don't have much advice since I just started as a cute wookie-girl brawler myself BUT....

apparently, the Lunges are to unbalance your opponent - and they don't seem to do anything to animals.... so don't use them - just let the character hit for itself with a warcry or intimidate thrown in.

I chose two easy missions (ask peopele in-game to tell you what animals are easy kills on your planet) and by the time they were finished, I was ready to train in my next skill - and I had the money to do it with (which was good, because there were no other brawlers nearby).

I don't know if you have heard this stratagy for soloing lairs but it worked REALLY WELL:

1. go to waypoint
2. use the TAB key to scroll through all the inhabitants of the lair that are currently outside
3. pick them off one by one
4. stand next to the lair and hit it ONCE, hitting the PEACE button immediately afterwards (located on the bottom right corner of the blue fight-screen that pops up whenever you start fighting anything)
5. wait to see if new enemies spawn
6. continue cylce from #3 until nothing more comes out of the lair
7. destroy lair!

Yay! time consuming but worthwhile!

Something to add to actual combat...

Use Berzerk against the tougher creatures. Hell, use Berzerk against ALL creatures. The wimpy ones die in 1 hit a lot of times so you can take out a few before your berzerk runs out. Intimidate is useful for keeping them from doing too much damage to you but you can't do it while berzerk. Watch your HAM (Health, Action, Mind) bars when doing specials, though. Especially if you have Vibro Knucklers since I've almost killed myself using too many failed specials.

Thanks for all the info. I didn't realize that the lunge did no damage (serves me right for not paying attention to those damage numbers) and assumed I just missed a lot or unarmed just did very little damage.

As far as the Wookie Brawler being traditional, that's actually a PnP tradition amongst my friends - if you fight in hand to hand your either a Wookie or a Jedi.

I don't know about anyone else, but lunge was useless to me. No damage aside, when the enemy changed posture I couldn't attack until they stood up again. The only use I had for it was to take a small breather before being beat on again.

I'm a Teras Kasi Novice (which doesn't make me all that tough

Vibroknucklers are the way to go. In retrospect, I probably should have paid the $30K requested by the weaponsmith (for the better materials--better specs), but I got mine for $15K and they still made a huge difference in what I could kill. The problem with mine was the range (zero meters!!!) which meant certain animals like rawls were unhittable sometimes; you have to deselect the knucklers to fight. I eventually ran across a Slicer, and he improved my range (to 1) and attack speed, so they are significantly better.

Despite these problems, vibroknuckles are still worth it. They just take a bit of management sometimes. I liked that I could hit for ~100 more damage using them--they make the standard attack (not special attacks) worth it.

As your attack speed gets better, lunge at least does SOMETHING. Now, when I lunge, i usually get the next hit in also. Still not all that great though.

I agree. Berserk while using Vibroknucklers almost guarantees that I can take down something that cons yellow to me. It's helped me to take out the occasional red con, too, but there's luck involved there too. Eat your buffs!
