I just got this game as a gift from my girlfreind and i made a brawler to experiment with and see what its like. Ive played other MMOGs before so the idea isn't new, but while i was playing around, my girlfreind brought up a good point. Whats the point of being a brawler? Or any fighter? so far everything ive killed has dropping nothing (if they do, its a few credits) and ive only gained experiance. so if i keep going down this road and master the brawler profession, what then? more leveling? i mean, i can understand the artisan skills. make stuff, gain skill, make more stuff, open up a shop and try to make a name or make a bunch of money, but i dont understand what combat skills are for in this game. Maybe i'm just missing something...

Of course, i'm new to the game and the only way i know of to make money is missions at the point so who knows how much more there is to things but i was just wondering how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Thoughts are appreciated...

Yeah. I get your point, D. I can see where you might think it's pointless. However, as the game goes along you may find it tougher to survive without decent fighting skills. Outside of most cities, you aren't that safe unless you are in a speeder, but even then you don't really get to explore the planets of "Galaxies" the way you might on foot.. and like I said, on foot can proove to be dangerous. Just keep playing, once you hit the upper ranks of Brawler or WHATEVER you choose, you'll begin to see it all fall together. biwan:

Combat skills are neccessary to kill animals for a scout to harvest resources from. It also makes the GCW possible and fun.

for example i would never have of gotten to explore dathomir alone without my character, which is a master swordsman, master brawler, tka 4/0/0/4, novice fencer, and novice pikeman, but i am a roleplayer, andthus ihave joined a roleplaying guild, and thus have more things to do other than just combat.

One could say the same for the artisan classes. Why continue to progress up the xp ladder, all your doing is making bigger and better things, which are basically just like you could make earlier, only better?

The answer is very simply, just about everyrpg is all about the striving to get better. You struggle from the earliest beginnings of the game and continue to get better and better, wether it is to accomplish some in game goal, or just simply to become the baddest you can. Combat skills are for mastery of combat, thats their sole purpose. If you are a person who doesn't enjoy the thrill of fighting newer, bigger, badder opponents then chances are good combat classes in this or any game are not for you. However, theres something to be said for the accomplishment factor of simply returning from a successful hunt. It feels good to me to know that i overcame all the adversity that i faced. Just a matter of your playstile.

This may sound mean but this isDryme's Tip #1: This isn't Everquest.

You kill stuff to either:

a) make money to buy stuff from crafters

b) get exp to be able to kill better, whether its PvP or PvE

There is loot in the game, stuff like skill attatchments to put in clothes or armor to make you better. There are components you can loot to make your weapons and armor better. There is also very rare actual weapons and equipment you can find, but keep in mind, this is VERY rare. As a former (although I didn't play it long) EQ player myself, it did take a little while to get over the idea of uber loot. My biggest suggestion is get involved in the Galactic Civil War, thats where you are going to find most of the content.
