Thread: Need Help Deciding on Elite Melee

I've been browsing the various elite professions, and I can't seem to decide on what profession to choose...

I'm a Master BioEngineer, Hunt Master (Ranger track 4), so I only have enough room for a 4-3 combo in an Elite profession (max 1 tree, 3 boxes in another).

I'm PvE mostly, and tend to solo most of the time. Either I'm out collecting meat, or I'm out gettin samples of DNA (from typically high kinetic creatures), and so I figure I should kill em if they don't like it and start to attack me. I'd also like to be able to tank for my woman (Novice Pistoleer on her way to master) when we are out hunting too.

So, based on that, I've determined that TKA is out, cause the kinetic only, and Pikeman seems to be mostly bad. So that leaves Swordsman or Fencer. I picked Fencer first, but I'm thinking alot more about Swordsman. From what I've seen, it appears that Fencer is more defense, and a fast hitter (although current speed cap issues cripple the profession), and the Swordsman is more about offense (although they've received a recent nerf on their bleeds).

I've thought of becoming a 0-4-3-0 Swordsman. Cause, a Zabrak holdin a big sword, hammer, or axe, looks alot cooler than one holding a gaderiffi baton, and the +15 speed is better than the defenses (although I could swap Hunt Master for 0-4-4-0 too).

Anyway, I'd thought I'd ask the people here, to see what they thought, and why

Thanks fo readin, and hopefully for the advice you may give

when i was leveling up swordsman, once i got mindhit3, everything went by extremely fast. that attack let me kill pikets in 2-3 hits. combine that with 2hlunge2 and warcry2 i have with master brawler, i mastered swordsman in no time at all.

but, if you want to be able to tank for your woman, then fencer would be the better choice. the dodge mods are insane with that profession. fencer is the only class that i haven't done for melee, so i don't know how strong it is if you're not a master. so the dodge mods might be lacking unless you're a blademaster.

Hehe. Asa TKA, I've found no trouble killing any range of monsters. Subtract krayts and kimogilas, anything in the game is essentially owned by you. Even a regular kimogila is killable. The other day, I powerboosted, put on my adv ubese armor, and went to town with one. The 26k ham variety. It attempted to blind/stun me, but tka accuracy is so high that you still don't miss. When I managed to land a knockdown/warcry on it, I knocked a good 40% of its health on that one 10 second span. Too bad my intimidate didn't stick though. Make sure you have good vk's for max damage and power it up, if you can. Have it sliced for encumbrance if you get that luck. I've never attempted a krayt, but I canguess it's not possible to solo even buffedwith armor.

What you have to realize is, even though the creature may have high kinetic resistence, you have unarmed toughness and melee damage mitigation. So, you're only receiving 40% of their possible damage output. TKA, as stated by the devs months ago, was designed to tank. You deal a great amount of damage in a short amount of time. Wanting to try something new, I started an alt to do BE (I was curious). Wanting to pair it with another tank profession, I grabbed swordsman. The axe does blast damage and the output is much higher than TKA. Your defenses are much lower, but you can slap a great mind bleed. I hope this helps.

Come by on Bria sometime. Create a toon there, i'll tip you the credits to dath. I'll show you how it's possible tosolo a lair of mutant rancor.

Between those two, I suggest fencer. Your dodge mod is wonderful, and you can do stun damage.

Ok, I guess TKA isn't so out of the picture now...

Thanks for the advice, after doin more readin, and more thinkin' I've actually thought of maybe givin up Ranger too, figured that if I get a Master Combat class, I can kill alot more stuff faster, and as a result, that can outweight the bonus' of meat I can harvest as a Hunt Master.

Style, RP and stuff also have some factors, and it's hard to resist the Maul factor too.

So, with that said, I'm thinking of the two templates...

MBE, Master Fencer, TKA w/Power Techniques 1 (to get a KD), Medic 1-0-0-4, Scout 3-0-4-0
MBE, Master TKA,Medic 4-3-0-4, Scout 4-0-4-0

The Master Fencer I figure would be a great tank, and w/the TKA I can lead of w/a KD.

The TKA I guess is a good tank (even better now that I actually understand what Melee Toughness is, 57% dmg reduction is pretty nice). I don't have enough skill points to Master Brawler, so I figured I'd put it in Medic (alt Medic tree might be 3-0-4-4 for StimCs?), and keep Explore high enough for terrain mods, and the important MaskScent abilities.

I thought of a Master Swordsman too, (same as Master Fencer template), but I guess that's more offensive Tank.

So, any more comments? And ThGilsRooc, I may take you up on your offer if I go TKM, so maybe post your ingame Bria name, and/or PM me, or even ingame mail me Corbantis.Elon

If you master fencer, the KD from TKA isn't good enough to warrant spending 14 skill points in brawler, and another 11 in TKA to get just one KD. In PvP, you can achieve a good KD with fencer by using dizzy and lunge1 to change their posture. When they kneel, they fall down. So if you're going master fencer don't waste the time on TKA.....unless you're getting the meditation line. (which I highly recommend )
