I've played this game since it first was released but I have never been one to understand the complexities of fighting. I've browsed the forums for awhile trying to understand some things about fighting but have come to the conclusion that I need a dictionary to understand some of the terms used. So, I am asking all the experts out there if they could define and explain some terminology that I've seen floating around.
Here it goes..
PART I:
What is meant by the term "kiting"?
What exactly does "ap0","ap1","ap2" stand for?
Can anyone explain "PvP","PvE","AoE"?
What does it mean to "dot" or use "dots"?
I am almost ashamed to ask the above questions.
PART II:
I am currently a Teras Kasi Master. That is it...(well, I'm Master Dancer/Entertainer too..don't tell anyone) I can use all the rest of my skill points on anything else I want to because I am leaving the entertainer world. At one time I had the TKM / Master Commando template because I wanted both melee/ranged abilities with their respective damage mitigations. I almost added to that Novice Pistoleer and a few attributes that would add to my defense since TKM's don't have much defense BUT I stopped short of doing that because I heard rumor that defense mods don't stack. For example, any mod I got from Pistoleer would only come in handy when using a pistol. I wanted all the stun, blind, etc defensesfrom pistoleer whilefighting as aTKM. The second I switched my Vibroknucker, those stats from pistoleer no longer applied????
Can I get an explanation on this???
So, here I am . . . just TKM really. My goals are to get involved in fighting players, not just nests all day. I've never won a fight ever against any player. I died in seconds and thought it was stupid.. HaHa. Should I go get some ranged abilities and pick up Master Commando again or something else? Do their mods stack with melee mods? OR.. should I get Master Brawler and Master Swordsman and just beef up my melee stats. Again, do mods from one profession stack with mods from another? For example, defense vs. stun from TKM will stack with that same mod from another profession???
I know these questions are trivial and are answered somewhere else, but I thought I'd take this approach since it seems the most effective. Pre-emptive "Thank You" to everyone who takes the time to answer this lengthy and wordy post.

i didnt have much time to read the post but for part 1.
AP = armour piercing and the higher the number the better it is.
PVP = player versus player
PVE= player versus enemy (creature/npc)
dont know the other one
and dots are damage over time, like poisons and heat damage. you will find dots on nightsister weapons.
hope this helps unfortunately i have run out of time and cant answer part 2. but im sure someone else will for you.

PART I:
What is meant by the term "kiting"? when somebody is running arround shooting at you (or something else) while out of range and keeping you from attacking them
What exactly does "ap0","ap1","ap2" stand for? armor piercing (1= light, 2= medium, 3= heavy)
Can anyone explain "PvP","PvE","AoE"? Player vs player, player vs enemy, and i think AoE is area effect or something along those lines.
What does it mean to "dot" or use "dots"? dot, is damage over time, like bleeds, or fire, posions, or disease.
PART II:
melee/ranged, and defense vs XXX stack, but the dodge, block, and counterattack do not stack.
hope that helped.

Part I:
Most has been covered, but AoE= Area of Effect, such as a spin attack for melee or a cone attack from range which damages multiple units in the vicinity of your current target.
Part II: my recomendation for PvPing is to master Fencer. in my experience fencers are the ultimate melee PvPers (....jedis are better, but im assuming you dont have that option). So i would go something along the lines of:
Master Fencer
Master Brawler
and depending on whatever you like more swordsman, pikemen, or TKA
Also maybe throw in a little medic into this if you want and you have a powerful PvP and PvE build.
I hope this helps you,

Don't forget that a lot of poeple that do PvP on a more regular basis are probably a bit more prepared, particlarly with respect to buffs and aliases for combo moves.

Thank you for your responses! Very helpful...
One last thing...
I have heard of aliases before but have absolutely no clue of what that entails. Can someone explain it to me or give me a link to a thread that explains what function it serves???
Thanks again to all.
