I have just started a new character as a Novice Brawler and I am wondering what is best for PvP and PvE? Do they have distinct differences between the two?
Many thanks in advance !!

Fencer best for PvP
Swordsman best for PvE
That being said, if the swordsman is speed capped and ha some stacked defenses, then a swordsman can be pretty deadly in PvP too.

Indeed. Its as simple as Fencer > Sword in PvE. Sword > Fencer in PvP (but as said, with capped speed the Sword can do some big damage, especially when mixed with Rifle).
No one says you can't go for both though - Master Fencer/Master Sword/ ?? Master Medic.

I agree fencer is good against other players and swordsmen is good at kicking the crap out of the little bitty creatures.

LoL ya till you run into high kinetic resists. No really though TKM is fun and all but right now fencer is pvp- swordsmen pve. Now depending how you play out the rest of your points you can make either one pretty stronge in either. Overall swordsmen will have higher damage but you'll have better defences as a fencers.

with the right gear, swordsman is pretty top notch in pvp and pve
fencer has low damage output and if the person has stun armor and psgs, forget it

Fencer : Most, if not all of his weapons are AP0.
He does have special damage type : Stun.
Fast.
Good defense.
PvP, it can be good, but against someone that has even a 5% Stun resist armor and a PSG, well, you'll damage yourself with special more than him.
Let's say a 40% PSG, so, 60% left, then, the armor, it's AR1, so 50% reduction, you're doing 30% of your base damage, then the actual stun resist of the armor then the melee mitigation, and melee toughness, and the 75% PvP reduction.
Fencer in PvP, against someone unprepared, you'll win easily, against someone prepared, you're dead.
Swordman : Most if not all of his weapon are AP2.(so, PSG is useless against it).
2 types of damage : Kinetic and blast.
Speed can be an issue, the hammer, that does the blast damage is usually slow, and as a Master Swordman doesn't cap speed, to be effective, you have 2 options :
- Don't use the hammer, but something faster but kinetic.
- Buy speed skill tapes.
Also, very effective mind attack.
