Thread: Oh how I miss grouping...

Well I had heard that the road to being an unarmed master was hard, I didn't know it would be a lonely one as well. The only way for me to advance through the 70,000 xp required for master brawler is to solo. I just can't compete with the damage done by others in my group especially if I am using specials to control the mob which is what I thought I was supposed to do.

Currently, the worse you play an unarmed brawler in a group the more exp you get. If a mob starts attacking my medic and I take the round to taunt or lunge...I just cut my exp by a third. If the answer is to just spam berserk then what is the point of this class? We are obviously not meant to be damage dealers. This will become even more obvious as the ranged weapons get better and better.

Why can't we gain exp by performing specials?I can't believe the current state of the unarmed brawler was intended by the devs. As it is they are rewarding poor group dynamics.

All you marksmen and medics be sure to hug your brawler, every time they save your butt they are sacrificing exp. (Note to medics: Yes I realize you save our butts but you get exp for doing your job...go figure)

I agree wholeheartedly.

I am now caught in a dilemma. Currently having Trap 3 and coupling it withexpert in 1H and Unarmed, I am now faced with a daunting choice:

Should I continue to pursue my brawler career, where I will be lagging hopelessly behind my friends progression rate or should I give up and join the Marksman profession? I'd hate to give up something fun just because the mechanics of the game doesn't support comparable progression rates.

It is impossible for me to gain even half the XP of my fellow players when grouping with them. Although I am taking the maximum risk, actively preparing and maintaining mob control (Special Abilities and Traps)I am left in the dust.

I am not grieving the fact that Brawlers are harder to "level" - What I am concerned about is our ability to keep up with our peers and effectively be left behind when they move on to bigger and badder places. For me this game is about grouping and getting equal opportunities to explore together and get experience based on our efforts.

As it is today Brawlers are sorely lacking in the XP department, which is too bad since they're extremely rewarding to play from a game-mechanic viewpoint. I understand the limitations of close-combat in a Star Wars ranged universe - I won't even touch the current inadequacies of duelling and PvP - but XP progression needs to be looked into I think.

Your right and I agree with that fact that something needs to be done about the XP situation as far as melee is concerned.

"I understand the limitations of close-combat in a Star Wars ranged universe"

The funny thing is that almost indisputebly the most popular aspect of he starwars universe are Jedis whomare melee fighters, I think it will be a riot if when someone finally figures out how to become a jedi they are easily dispatched bya marksman who just kites around him in a pvp battle.

Granted this might not turn out to be the case.

I have to disagree with you there.

I just got my master unarmed last night, and I started training for it on Tuesday night.

I earned about 1/4 of the xp by myself fighting white-con mobs on Tuesday night. The other 3/4 was earned in a fairly large group Wednesday night. Actually, with my vibroknuckles, *I* was the one who had to tone down my combat style since I was out hitting my ranged group-mates and often killing the mobs before they had a chance to get a shot off.

Maybe you should stress to whomever you're grouping with that *you* need to be the one pulling (traps work well for the this) the mobs and not them since it's is almost impossible to hit a mob that a ranged combatant (especially a rifleman) pulls. My group memebers were very respectful about that and let me strike first.

Another thing that I used to ensure that I got my share of the XP was /taunt. In a large group you shouldn't have to woory too much about using Berserk to take down an opponent, so instead I use /taunt to make sure that if I don't pull the mob it will come straight to me anyways.
