Thread: Removing Melee Classes from this Game?

Although this sounds like a crazy idea, I am sure for the good of the game this would work. I have been playing this game for about 6 weeks now and I have never seen such an imbalanced mess as Melee characters are in this game. I have always played a Melee character in my 5 years of playing online games and much to my disappointment I picked another melee class called Teras Kasi Artist

What is the point of including 5 Melee classes (including Brawler) if they are completely incapable of withstanding Mob power in this game.

Melee characters have the following problems in a group situation from my experiences in this game so far:-

1/ Poor damage output due to range issues, unable to attack while a mob is moving and the fact that unless you are attacking a single mob you will almost certainly die or be incapped within seconds, thus leading to abysmal damage output

2/ Being gimped by huge HAM costs when using specials, which is in fact a double whammy because of the fact you are using HAM from the same pool as damage being dealt to you by the mob’s you are fighting. Ranged weapon users have a huge advantage here because they can be healed while burning HAM for specials with little problem of timing issues for the healer.

3/ HAM costs for amour are too high thus leading to point 2 above, of a Melee character suiciding themselves during combat due to secondary stats being reduced.

So why don’t SOE save us players and themselves a huge problem by just removing these classes from the Game and have pet’s do all the tanking which they are far better at ( especially when tanking multiple mobs at the same time). Range weapon users will then be the damage dealers and balancing those classes will be relativity easy when compared to Melee / Ranged / Pet.

I’am I crazy for suggesting this, as in my opinion it will take years to balence this mess?

Yeah I am not sure if I am serious or not be honest, but when all is said and done Melee class look like an afterthought in this game rather than a core class designed from the ground up. I am not familiar with how this game progressed in Beta so I cannot comment on how melee classes preformed during that stage of development, but one thing is for sure melee classes look like to me they simple don’t have a role to play in this game whether it is PvE or PvP.

Does more equal better? I haven’t counted the number of classes in this game but balancing must be a nightmare. The greatest games ever created are very simple in design but what makes them great are the players using the rules to full advantage. After all would people still play games such as chess if it had 30 odd different types of pieces on the board with different rules for each piece governing them?

So what is the point of melee in this game? Pets are vastly superior ‘tanks’ and damage output can easily be supplied by ranged players.

Online Games such as Everquest are still being balanced now after 5 years, it has only 14 classes to balance and they are cookie cutter characters. Are you prepared to play a game for 2 or 3 years playing a class that is fundamentally broken in the hope one day it may be become useful rather than a joke? I love melee classes and that’s all I have ever played. It’s a shame my play style has no purpose in this game, and getting laughed at by other group members because I get incapped so much isn’t much fun at all

Looking for an answer

I dont feel that melee classes are fundamentaly broken.

They just serve a different role/purpose in the game.

I have seen strong range characters taken out whenever a mob gets in close, were I have managed to fight off 4 at once.

Yes huge HAM costs can be hard, but you just have to learn how to play the char you have.

This game is all about fighting in agroup. I'm having a hella cool time hacking my way across advanced planets. Quit worrying about what you can't do and have some fun. We can't all be uber jedi and shouldn't be. Stop trying to make every class the most powerful in the game. I'm tired of hearing all the whinning. This game is incredible. If you don't like being melee switch to a ranged profession. Bet you'll find something wrong with those too. If you were a true TKA you would be at peace with your skills and know your purpose is to hold true the the Followers of Palawa and the Bunduki way of life. Why don't you try to understand the setting rather than talking about experience in other games. If you understood this you would understand that as a TKA your time will come. They serve a purpose in the Star Wars setting. Try a little role play as well. This game isn't all about killing everyone and every creature to extinction. There can be honor and lessons learned in defeat.

Preach on...hehe

How much do you know about the Palawa and Bunduki? I've recently gotten into reading EU novels (Shadows, Tatooine Ghost, and Zahn's Trilogy) and would love to learn more about alot of things. Seeing how I'm playing a Teras Kasi I would love to learn more about the history of them and anything else I can find out. What would you recommend for me to read in this regards? Thanks...

melee useless and powerless ? lol

range weapons users are useless =)

just an ex : We went to krayth dragon hunt and we where 4 people :

- master swordman / master dancer (me )

- master swordman / CH (he just has a graul)

- master TKA / doctor (only health and action buff in D, str in C,and some others in A)

- master combat medic / doctor (same as above for buff, and no poison as she don't have all ressources she need)

so we where 100% melee dommage dealer, no range dommage, no poison, and only a normal graul to take the first aggro.

Gess what ? poor dragons died like bettle. Somethimes they where two at the same time, but who cares, they died too We got tissus, segments, scales, and even a nice dragon perle !

Tanking krayt dragon is really fun! Of course, armor and buff are needed to survive, and landing intimidate and warcry is a high priority

Brawlers are not useless, and are very far from being powerless.
