Thread: Melee professions in PVE
I am primarily a PVE player. I don't have a lot of desire to do the PVP thing for a lot of reasons. However, I am at a stage where I am conflicted about my character's future. I had been working towards Bounty Hunter, but that whole train wreck is starting to become less and less attractive to me. I picked up Brawler on a whim and have really enjoyed it. However, I don't really know what direction to head for my advance profession. I know there are several things stacked against Melee's in PVP, but how do the different advanced professions do in PVE? Are all equally competent or does one really shine above the others. I primarily group w/ 2 other people. The first is a Creature Handler/Pistoleer and the other is a mishmash of all kinds of stuff. I will be backing up my skills with some ranged compentency, but I really will choose that based on what type of melee I end up doing.
Anywho, longwinded story.
So....what are your thoughts?
Cheers!

For the ranged support, I'm going with pistol because I want to mess with smuggling some. Carbine would be good to though. Rilfes are good from longe range, but if you are closer to the mob it could be trouble.
Hope this helps.
Curently Im a TKA 0/0/0/0. ITs an awesome profesion.
My plans never really included M brawler untill recently. As menioned before a well rounded martial artist also knows the use of weapons. Im also doing it so that maybe I can master another melee profesion in the future. Im all for melle not so much for ranged.
In my opinion. Pikemen rock. They look amasing and do a lot of damage. Sure people will say they are broken, but once you see one in action it makes you wonder how broken they are. I went on a rancor hunt and so a PM kick incredibela @$$.
Swords men are real coll also. Personally i do not like a lot of their weapons, but the swords are awesome. The curved sword or katana is my favorite. Gives ya a samurai look. Also good for attacking the mind pool. Remember mind can only be healed in a cantina or camp.
Fencers in my opinon have cool combat moves and good speed, but a lot of their weapons areawfull loking.I ve also heard that they gain xp faster than the other profesions.
Now for a final overview of the brawler profesions compard to real life. LOL! I look at them like this and it helps when wanting to choose a style:
In my opinion:TKA-
Tka would be your basic form of hand to hand combat. Compared to Karate, Okinawan Karate, Kempo, Wu Shu or Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Jeet Kun Do, hapkido, among others.
Fencers- Compared to the chinese use of swords as in wushu, Shaoilin Su Kempo, or philipino arts of Kali/escrima/arnis, among others.
Swordsmen- Kenjutsu/Iado/ Kendo, nunjutsu, aikido, (first 2 being the arts practiced by samurai and the use of katanas), Hwarangdo (art practiced in Korea by the soldier class much like samurai), among others. Probably good once mounts come out.
Pikemen- chinese kung fu, wu shu, japaneese arts that practice the naginata, korean arts etc.......... Arts that use the Jo or staff. I think will be the best class for mounts.
Well the reason why I made the following analogy was to help maybe in the choosing. If you know a fightng style you might like in real life, then it might help ou choose one for the SWG.
For me it was TKA, but in the future I might go for swordsman. MAybe pikeman, just because i want to choose another profesion with not qas many people with TKA.
What you need to realize is that with the exeption of TKA, and maybe swordsman, the other 2 profesions are really not that good for PvP. Hopefully they willl get fixed soon!
Hope this helps a little although it is probably not what you were looking for. Just choose the profesion you enjoy the most. Personally if I start a new character Ill go first for Pikeman. I like under dogs.
Cacco Okabido.
So then why don't you become a pistoleer?
