Thread: melee range: they hit me, I don't hit them
Ok, I got lazy and made a macro engagemelee:
/attack; /follow
this helps... but I still do a lot of running. and follow is far from perfect. that said:
UNARMED, at least, the problem is that I can stand within melee range of, say, a fanned rawl, and while it has no problems hitting me, I'm getting a combat log of 'out of range' for all my attacks (except an occasional lunge). I seem to be having this problem with or without VK's (which were supposed to be fixed to a 5m range but are STILL 3m or less).
this isn't fun. if I'm listed as 4m from a fanned rawl and move closer, it moves to 4 meters. so I move closer. it moves to 4m. is this a problem because of the snake-center-of-range (ie, long and skinny, so while the head is right on me, the body/tail are well out of range)? if I'm using spin attacks (area effect), I see this effect even more... a crowd of spineflaps can all tag me, while my attacks don't have any effect outside the ONE that I happen to be targetting.
adding to my injuries... now that I'm actually trying things I have no business dancing with, I'm noticing it's a lot worse... I can be w/in 3m, not hitting pikets... where they can hit me from 15m+.
so, basically, we're boned?
Well, pikets I don't have a problem with. You may just be missing them because they're much higher level than you can handle. Rawls, however; I just don't hunt, because they drive me nuts. I hate birds, too (giant peko pekos). And dinosaur-sized creatures are a pain (tortons, faambas), I literally have to run in one direction while punching a faamba to keep him within range.
If you have scout traps, try a phenacine dart or adhesive mesh trap to keep them from moving for awhile. Or just keep your sanity and don't fight them.
