Thread: Master Brawler hybrid class...mercenary

There are many threads on wanting the MB to have a hybrid elite to make it more useful than just for the level 2 skill mods (WC2, Lunge2, Int2, and mods). I have seen mention of Assassin and Gladiator as good ideas. Now, I would like to propose the Mercenary class.

The mercenary would be more of a "Merc for Hire" class in its justification. While it would not be only used that way, that would be the concept behind the hybrid class.

The combination would be master brawler, master marksman. I realize the MM already has 2 elite hybrids, but since several single ladders spawn multiple elites/hybrids, I dont see why MM cant have 3.

The Mercenary:

Bonus for neutrality would be the ability to overt against both sides of the GCW. This would give the merc the ability to work for both sides without the hinderance that a true neutral has to face when dealing with factionally aligned players. The merc would work for players rather than the game world to set it apart from the BH class. No NPC or Jedi missions would be offered to the merc, rather a politician would receive the ability to put up Merc Bounty terminals that could be modified by the mayor of a player city and mercs could go from city to city and take missions from those terminals or someone could offer them a mission via the city terminal through their city politician. The mission pay would be based on what the mayor and citizens were willing to pay to see a mission completed and be deposited into the terminal at the time of mission posting. The merc would receive payment to their bankaccount upon completion. This would work much the same way vendors do, only in a reverse order. The mayor would be given a system message when the target was eliminated. Just like BHs are able to get a TEF from their jedi missions, so would a merc get a TEF against the targetted player they were to track down. DEs could be given a new droid modification that would be used to assist the merc in tracking down the player.

The merc skill mods:

melee weapon mods (for using any of the brawler weapons or UA)

ranged weapon mods (for using any ranged weapon from the MM)

melee/range def increases thatrival melee and marksman elite

tracking mods similar to BH

additional abilities such as stealth, camo, terrain neg, burst run, aiming, basic med use and several modified attack specials

This hybrid would specialize in tracking players, eliminating them and living to survive the experience. To limit this from becoming a random PvP class, put a timer on the missions and fail them if the merc is logged out for more that 1or 2minutes. The timer effectively increases the mercs abilities to rival a single elite's abilities, but fades when the timer expires or the mission is completed (working like a power-up for the merc during the alotted hunt time). Since the hybrid would essencially use up nearly every SP available to get the master mercenary (2 starting professions + 1 elite = 217 SP used, 33 free), there would be little room to manuever additional skills into the class to make it too powerful. This would validate giving a modified version of several class specific abilities (stealth, camo, med use) without making them all powerful. Also, with limited abilities pulled from each to make the merc would force the merc to rely on others for supplies, but would essencially make the merc a soloist from Novice to Master, as they should be lone travelers only interacting with others when they need supplies or missions.

Take this base design and flame it, support it, modify it....I am just hoping that it will keep people thinking about what we would like to see in the future.

Hmmm the descriptionsound like what should be given to Master Bounty Hunters...now. Trust me many Bounty hunters arent exactly excited about the End-Game for MBH's...Jedi hunting. They are lucky to see one in a month.

Omg ,this would cause an uproar in the BH community if some other class was able to hunt players for pay and they were stuck with just Jedi(/em rolls eyes) . Trust me, if Player Bounties were ever introduced I pray to "God" and the Holy Holocron *cough, that it is given to MBH's.

What Jedi's? /sarcasm off

Rare and hardly ever found isnt exactly fullfilling to the BH's i've talked to.

Iwill admit i'm not a BH, but I sit next to one on my LAN at home and the last thing that my brother hangs his hat on, is waiting for a Jedi to be visible to bring some excitement into his game.

It's almost like saying that all CH's can only tame a Queen Mantigrue screecher baby.

Maybe I misunderstood you and apoligize if I took your meaning out of context.

I would say a mercenary is less a class, and more a play style. The basic definition is a warrior for hire. Bounty hunters are just fancy mercenaries. I could run about, or post on the boards that I will help people hunt for money or items....THAT would make me a mercenary.

"So I swoop upon the foe, and I will slay,
I will hew them into pieces, I will dash them into dust;
Like Baal in his strength, on their rearward, lo! I fell,
And I killed them, none escaped me, and I slew, and slew, and slew."
