Thread: Mon Cal..
At present i'm a Rifleman/Swordsman with bits of scout/medic etc..
what would be the benefits of wearing armour? i seem to remember trying it but it cocking up something to do with rifles..
basically, i've got some cash now, and i'm not sure what to spend it on.. is there an armour tutorial anywhere?

Not a brawler so pardon if I get it wrong - am a mon calarmorsmith.
Believe you are mostly taking kinetic damage. Both Chitin and Ubese armor can be boosted for kinetic protection. Good ubese will provide 60-70% kinetic, chitin more like 40-45%. Chitin looks cool on a mon cal (think lobster...), Ubese is probably easier to obtain. You should be able to migrate your secondary stats to wear a full set of either. If you cannot wear the full set, forget the helmet. And buy 2 jackets if you go ubese - they cover chest and biceps so they take quite a beating.
Then buy a psg (personal shield generator) to add a bit of energy protection. They are belt-worn and do not add encumbrance.
Good luck with the brawler thing, us squid/fish/whatever aren't really designed for the physical thing, though my MCH/rifleuser alt usually manages to stay alive.

might start looking for a kindof "combat mechanics" type of tutorial..
i.e what does kinetic damage etc, how armour effects your stats etc..
know of anything like that about?

Mon cal can be just as effective as any class with the right gear and they are superb as TKA with the high mind and buffs.
The key to armour is being able to quickly put it on and take it off so u are only wearing it during combat so macros are your friend.
