I have read that many of you are suggesting getting VK while still on the unarmed tree. According to the certifications you need to be a Novice TKA to use the. How do you use them before TK? Do I need to get them sliced. Also what are some good stats for VK and how much should a good VK cost?

the suggestion is made because even though your not certified the vk give more damage than your bare hands. Thats always a good thing. The best suggestion for slicing them is to try and get em done for speed ... probably worth it if you're able to get a few pairs and slices done. Now my friend currently climbing the unarmed tree seems to think they werent all that great but I think they are just going by what some of the other people we know are saying. So just keep an eye on em... with and without... see what really works.

At low unarmed levels, your damage done with VKs is less then without. At unarmed II, unarmedhit1 does 150 damage without, 110 with (aproximates, but the ratio is about good) In berserk, you do 180 with, 160 without. default attacks I don't recall right now.

So from that you would conclude that VKs are bad until TKA, however they're not, because a normal set of VKs makes you attack twice as fast as you otherwise would be. So while your damage per strike is less, you do it twice as fast, thereby killing faster as a result. In berserk, I can either do 800 damage total with 5 VK attacks, or I can do350-550 damage with 2-3 non-VK attacks.

end result: VKs are good at Brawler levels as well.

I have gotten Novice TKA three times. I HIGHLY suggest that you get a paira VKs.

The reason you use VKs before Novice TKA has nothing to do with dmg. You will infact do slightly less dmg with VKs (unless you are a Trans, then you do about the same).

BUT, you will attack 2-3 times as fast. Using VKs and berserk at low lvl unarmed, you will attack very very fast (for a novice brawler anyway). If you attack faster, the times you miss are not at important. It all comes down to Damge Per Second. And you will do at least 2-2.5 more DPS.

If you get a pair and get a good speed slice (30% or more) you can get you speed down to 1.3-1.4. Add a speed power up and you can get as low as .9-1.0. This will get you to novice TKA in a hurry.\

i am Novice tka (1-2-2-1) but i used a VK when i was lvl 2! i got a speed 1.6 at the start and then i moved to a 1.5 when i became a student
the best thing is to get them sliced becasue no matter what damage u do u get atleast 3 shots in on a squill!
The best thing to do is find a master Weaponsmith and then make him make u a normal VK and then get it sliced by a master smuggler!
DO NOT get a advanced VK as it can only be sliced on speed to 1.6 as i know!
Get 2 made and get em sliced
cos if 1 doesnt work then the other proberly will!

If you check out the FAQ listing you'll see a discussion of why Vibroknucklers are a good idea even when you are working in the brawler tree. =-)

When people make reference to "a pair" of VKs, do they mean one item, or is it possible to dual weild them - in other words, equip 2 individual items?

No, you can only ever use one at a time. But the real reason to get them before TKN is the speed bonus. You'll be hitting once every 4 seconds without VK's at novice brawler, with VK's (with a SPEED slice...do NOT get damage when leveling to TKN) you can hit as fast as 1.5-1.7. After you hit TKN though, I'd suggest getting a damage sliced VK, because you'll be close to hitting the cap at that point.

Thanks. I asked a TKM in-game and he said it was a pair as in "pair of gloves", which is weird, seeing as only one shows up on the model...

I picked one up with a speed of about 2.1 (if memory serves) which seemed to increase my unarmed attacks noticeably. Sure the damage is lower, but I'm hitting a lot faster, which is the important thing when you're as innaccurate with your hits as I am
