Okay, so I'm not real sure if this is the place for this question, but do melee bonuses gained by different professions (i.e. fencer - dodge, polearm - block, etc.) apply to all melee professions? If I were to get some points of dodge from fencer, would those points still have affect if I were wielding a polearm?

I can do all I want for the rebellion and the imps won't ever notice me. Come on, who would've thought it was the bothan?

Yes. Defenses stack overall like Dodge. So you can combine defenses from several profs until you hit the cap. However, there are specific defenses you get from using certain weapons and those only apply while you wield that weapon. ie unarmed toughness, one-hand toughness, etc.

Not only are the toughness values active only when holding a weapon of that type, but also the secondary defenses, i.e. block/counterattack/dodge. You can have +125 dodge from fencer and pistoleer, but if you're using a polearm you will use whatever your block skill is. The rest of the defenses (melee/ranged and state defenses) stack and are active at all times.

Okay, so now I'm just as confused as before, lol. So, dodge will not work while I have a polearm equipped, and counterattack will not work while I have a one-handed sword equipped?

I can do all I want for the rebellion and the imps won't ever notice me. Come on, who would've thought it was the bothan?

Exactly. If you have a polearm equipped, you use your block skill; 1-H sword, you use your dodge skill; 2-H sword/hammer, you use your counterattack skill.

And if you have a Vibro Knuckler (Or none) equipped, all three bonuses will apply. You might dodge, counterattack, or block.
