Thread: Brawlers What armor do you wear and which pieces?
I am a Zabrak brawler aiming for TK. I have unarmed 3, and have tried both some cheap mibari and some expensive Chitin. The chitin is very heavy, and I had to migrate my stats to up my STR and CON just to wear it. Each piece offers between 18-22% kinetic protection, which seems pretty decent. But I'm trying to figure out if it's helping more than it's hurting me.
My unmodified stats now include STR of 499 and CON of 365 (not high, I know). My health is 1000 and action is around 950.
Putting on my full suit of chitin brings STR down to around 210 I believe and CON even lower, so I've started wearing just the chest plate and the leggings. I stopped wearing the helmet because it drops my 250 focues to about half that, which just seems too darn low.
Anyway, how much does your STR stat affect your damage output? How much am I suffering from wearing this armor as opposed to what I'm getting in protection from monsters (which is mostly what I fight atm).
Am I screwed as a Zabrak? It seemed like a good choice at the time, since I didn't want to play another Trandoshan, but this max of 500 on STR and CON seem too low.
Any suggestions for what to do?
Strength doesn't affect your damage output. It has to do with how much health is taken away when doing special attacks, thus the higher your strength, the less health you special attacks will take away. I am working towards master brawler right now (only have master one-hand and two-hand to go), and when I am fighting I wear a full suit of chitin armor, while I switch to an outfit of clothing after battles to help me regen. I am a human, but I cannot recall what my stats are right now. I remember they are something like 1000(health), 600(str), 550(con), 900(act), 500(quick), 500(sta), 600(mind), 400(focus), 400(willpower).
Unfortunately Zabraks are not strong. Their max Strength and Constitution is 400. That means your health pool will go down quite quickly using Brawler special moves, although Zarbraks do have a potential Health pool max of 1200, which is very good. Thematically Zabraks are meant to be mentally tough, which is why they have a minimum Willpower of 700. Great if you want to be a Pistoleer/medic, otherwise a bit of a waste on a straight Brawler class.
I know this from experience because grinding out the unarmed spec for smuggler on my Zabrak was a major pain in the ass. I could not use any special moves at all because with str/con of 300/400, he would actually kill himself faster than any monster.
I know what you mean I have tried Bone armor, I have tried Mabari, I have tried Mabari. And all seem to weigh me down, all seem to Not do as good for me in protetion as they damage me. I died a Lot.
I started feeling others were right... the class was nerfed, then I managed to make apprentice Pikeman. I roleplay a lot, and am a partime dancer On naritus, so if you don't believe me ask Lo-pi Easid On naritus he was there. I was leaving the Hotel at restuss, Ina pair of slacks, and a Blouse. When a white conned Thug, that always killed me, attacked, I had NO time to change clothes , so I fought Him, and handily beat him, and took very Little damage. Seeing this I started thinking. I asked Lo-pi to come withme, for heals and do a couple destroy Missions... naked.
I was Under the Impression regular clothing would be damaged if I wore them In battle as armor does. The result was that he felt he needed to throw in a few heals. But I destroyed Both capper Pods, and took little damage Myself, less damage than useing armor, and having a healer.
Since My question then was, what armor is best when soloing, I went and again did 2 capper Pod nest missions alone. Naked. And again I took very little damage, and My speed was amazing. I then did Ikopi Lairs, same,.. hermit crabs... same... Nightspider lairs... same... I took less damage than with armor.
Once I discoverred that Clothing does Not take damage, I decided if I am gonna Kick butt, I may as well Look My best, and decided that for clothing, I would wear My red fleshwrap.
As I said, this can ALL be verified. For me? the best armor, is None. I heard that padded, and composite, was supposed to be good, But a swordsman I know wears a pair of slacks, and a shirt, then again, he does Not look as good as I, In a fleshwrap...
Try and see, Pick easy Missions, and Put that armor away, then do a similar dificulty mission with Bone, mabari, chitin, you will see. At least against creatures of same level, and a few yellows, No armor seems to be better than Low level armor.
You are far from screwed as a zabrak. Armor wise, I too wear no armor, but from what it sounds a really nice set of composite will do you quite well, but cost you around 50k. The best you can do stat wise is attempt to max out those secondary categories for Health and Action. My zabrak HAM stats are as follows,
1k Health, and maxed str/con. 1k Action and maxed quickness/Stam. For mind, I have 650 Mind, and minimum focus/willpower. The thinking on this template of stats is that we already have superior mind scores, so the only potential thing we might wanna do is raise our mind pool, as the secondary stats are already very good.
Reguardless, I would either go no armor, or full composite but don't be fooled into thinking you are SOL as a zabrak brawler. You're stats might not be the most ideal, but they are far from gimped.
I'm a novice fencer.
Armor actually works pretty well for me. I have a mix of ubese, chitin and mabari. The ubese has great protection; 20% kinetic seems to actually block over half the damage from hits that hit that armor (if I get hit for 200, it'll block 110ish). Chitin is pretty good vs. both kinetic and energy (blaster fire). Usually I wear ubese pants and jacket, and chitin gloves and boots.
I dofewerspecials when I wear it, but it protects me pretty well. Then again, my RL boyfriend plays a doctor with me, so my health and action get healed right away. Body armor is recommended to those that travel with a medic.
It's just helms that seem to be a bit of a problem. Since no one can heal mind damage, I can't do any specials when wearing a heavy ubese helm. A lightermabari helm, which has less HAM cost but alsoless protection, works ok if I do minor specials, like just lunge/dizzy on a humanoidor just a bleed or whatnot and the rest being plain attacking or berserk (which seems to only take HA).
In conclusion, I think using armor is better when you have a medic, and also if you have a couple of meleers together. You can't continually special with armor on, but you can use your debuff moves and then own the enemy together.
