Thread: Bonus vs Ranged (except pistols)
When you hit a rifleman with a sword, you get a ton of bonus damage.
When you hit a carbineer with a sword, you get good bonus damage.
When you hit a pistoleer with a sword, you get almost no bonus damage.
Consequently, pistoleers will frequently kick our butts, even if they're nice enough to stand still. Similarly, an NPC that you easily beat today because he's using a rifle will destroy you tomorrow when he spawns with a pistol. The developers state that brawlers have the advantage if they can get to melee range against a marksman -- this is true for brawler vs rifle or brawler vs carbine but not for brawler vs pistol.
Since pistols already have the advantage of better point-blank accuracy, giving them less damage when being hit by melee is redundant and makes being a brawler mostly worthless -- why brawl when you could do just as well from melee range using a pistol?
My suggestion is that they make pistols, carbines and rifles all take the same extra damage damage when hit by melee, say, x2?
You really have to worry when a pistoleer kicks your arse in melee using pistol whip. Now thats real fun, being pummeled into the ground by a guy with a gun hitting you over the head with his grip, yet you can't stab him in the foot with your sword or punch him in the nose.
Han Solo used a pistol. So pistol is king. I'd suggest picking on Rifleman and Carbineers. Leave the pistoleers to the BH's and CH's.
