Stupid 'enter' key.

Anyways, I'm currently a scout trying to go 1hs and pistols, for body hits. I've got a Power5 pistol, and a Curved Sword. The pistols are fine; what I'm having problems with is this : Why should I keep the sword?

The wound chance is higher, but as a scout I fight mobs where that really isn't much of an issue. The damage is about equivalent (Though I'm sure that a Vibroblade or Ryyk blade might edge out the pistol damage-wise), but the special move costs are MUCH higher.

Also, weaponsmiths who make melee weapons are harder to find. I can't BUY a vibroblade or Ryyk blade because nobody out there makes them!

All in all the pistol has equal or better damage, less special move costs, are easier to find weaponsmiths for, can be shot from range, and I still take the same amount of damage with the pistol as I do with my sword.

As cool as I think 1h swords are... coolness alone can't justify the 30+ points I'm putting into this skill. Can anyone give me a reason why I'd want to keep this? Please?

Welcome to the world of brawlers.

You have to understand a few things:

1) You get absolutely no advantages of being melee

2) Rarely will people ever make weapons for you. You're very very lucky to get a curved sword. Trust me.

3) You cannot tank. You will lose unless you have a medic behind you all day long.

That said, welcome to the brawlers club!! ^_^;;

To be more specific however, as a 1h sword you one huge advantage:

Lunge+Dizzy will knock out most humanoid opponents. This will give you as much time as you need to hack them to death. You can only get this at expert 1h.

Once you get to expert one handed, it gets a bit easier. As you climb the slopeand past the "slump", which is near master one handed, you can start getting the xp in a lot quicker. Spin hit can take out a nest so much faster than your pistol. It makes it worth it. A lot.

You will have to beg for your new swords. Bribe, steal, do whatever you can. As a swordsman your weapons are going to be far outclassed by guns (this is true for brawlers in general).

Don't give up the sword. Let it aid you when an enemy starts chasing you and forcing you to kite. Stand there, give him a beating with a sword (lunge+dizzy!!!! no one uses it!! why!!).

Finally, don't forget to put skills into medic and scout as well...

By the way I am 70% there to novice fencer. I'm having the time of my life soloing the wilderness and earning cash this way. Very few things can stop me(I mean, realistic enemies, I'm not talking about Kilmogillas here). I picked up a rifle to suppliment my combat approach. Medic and scout is absolutely essential to give your character the least downtime possible. Currently I am just hunting out nests by myself and can take them out in less than 2 minutes. It takes about three spin attacks to kill a nestfull of blues and yellows (many things con blue to me now for some reason, however the occaisional red is still easy to beat, like kreetles.... dunno why). For some it takes one or two swings. For humanoids I can take on a red on a one-on-one no problems for the most part. Two on one white, sometimes three if they're melee too.

It's a long tough road but right now it seems very promising.

couldnt have said it better myslef flux. so howi think me you and several other will be in charge of the one handed community. Just got master this morning havent got a chance to attack a nest yet but cant wait. as for damage one hand spin ( master one hand ) was doing 300 for me when i tried it and its area of effect. So now when I actuall attack a nest iwill use that instead of my one hand hit ( good damage but single target) and hopefully all the aggros i get from the nest will kill themselves by walking into my attack range. Potentially could take out a blue nest in under 30 secs.

trade that curved sword in for a gaderiffi baton, they are much more effective and look better , i guess swords must be good for fighting something but i have not found it. But considering you have pistol you may consider dropping 1h for unarmed, because then you could pick-up some smuggler skills.

I agree, I have been a brawler since day one, even though i am a casual player, a friend reminded me of one thing, quote "do you remember the movies?" I said "Yes", and he said "Who use a sword?, the one Jedi, Luke, and the Sith....What are you?" I said " point taken", he said " look at the movies everyone had a blaster, it was blaster fight after blaster fight". That is when I said enough with one hand, I am going blaster. But I am not one to discourage anything, just my own opinion. Commando's lead the way hooyah!!

Point made, however I just like being the sword class no matter what game it is... it's such a style thing. Can't get over flipping out at night and killing people like a ninja...
