Thread: Advantages of Each Melee Profession?

Hey there, I have had SWG for over a year now, and have been focusing mostly on marksman skills. However I'll probably be getting an alt soon and i would like the alt to be a melee profession. I have gotten to novice swordsman before and i liked it fine, but needed skill points for something else so i gave it up. I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages were for the melee professions. So far my favorites it seems are fencer and pikeman from what i have looked at.

Thanks in advance for your input

Which melee prof to choose depends a lot on what level kind of mob's and npc's you want to be able to kill and also what part you want in a group, tank/damage dealer etc.

The Advantages of each prof is something like this:
TKA: Can target all pools, fast, medium damage, good defences, meditation.
Fencer: Fast, very good defences, low damage.
Swordsman: Slow, high damage, low defences.
Pikeman: Slow, medium damage, lots of spin attacks, lots of DoT weapons.

TKA is sort of jack of all trades, good at everything but not best at anything. Can only do kinetic damage. Max ap 1

Fencer is on paper the best tank, but only up to medium level mobs, the real high end mobs always hit everything so any melee prof will be equal tank there. But if you go for more medium level targets like the geo cave it's really good, you can often get away with not wearing armor. Good state defences. Can do Kinetic and stun damage. Max ap 1

Swordsman is mainly a damage dealer, if you like to solo high end stuff this is the prof for you. Not so good in pvp. Can do kinetic and blast damage. Max ap 2.

Pikeman is bit special, they have access to more damage types than any other melee prof and getting DoT weapons is fairly easy but they have low acuraccy and just medium damage. While spin attacks are nice all melee proffessions get some. Can do kinetic, electric and energy damage. Max ap 1.

After mastering dancer on this alt, I will have 144 skill points left. This is enough to master a melee prof and do 2 trees in another melee profession. I think I would like to do master swordsman and do some in pike, with the hopes of them getting better in CU. If they do not get better in the CU i'll do a defence stacker template with 2 trees in fencer. Does this sound good? I would like to be able to tank but also be able to solo some higher end mobs.

I'm glad I saw this post because it answered alot of my own questions. I am still wondering about each profession's advantage in PvP because I would like to be able to solo moderate high mobs but I also want to be good in PvP.

Thanks for your help

Solo or grouped PvP? As a master fencer, I'll admit I don't always come out on top in solo PvP. I'm getting better though.

In groups, a fencer is always great to have around, especially with riflemen/commando's. It takes other professions a long time to take me down while the ranged folks are dealing out much higher damage than I could ever dream of.
