I like everything I read, but I'm still on the fence about the prereqs because of they way they affect brawler/marksmen, brawler/crafter, and marksman/crafter templates.

Yea I kind of feel the same way. I will most likely stay a master brawler so overall it doesn't affect me personally, but I have made this known as a player concern.
I also feel that some of the pairings for elite brawler professions are a bit odd, especially the TKA requirements. Having been an instructor in a local martial arts school I know one of the last weapons we would teach our students would be a two handed sword. I do know that all styles of martial arts are different but I feel they all share some fundamental basics.
It seems to me a more fitting pairing of the brawler trees would be as follows.
- Pikeman = Polearm Specialization Tree, 2H Sword Specialization Tree
- (both being heavy two handed weapons the skills are a good compliment)
- Swordsman = 1H Sword Specialization Tree, 2H Sword Specialization Tree
- (easy enough swordsman should be able to handle any sword with basic skill)
- Fencer = 1H Sword Specialization Tree, Unarmed Specialization Tree
- (only using one hand for your sword leaves your other free for some unarmed mayhem)
- TKA= Unarmed Specialization Tree, Polearm Specialization Tree
- (the bo or some similar staff is one of the first weapons taught by many martial arts styles simple to learn and easy to improvise)
This also eliminates the triple master potential of TKA/Fencer/Swordsman.
My biggest concern is how useful the brawler trees paired together will be vs. how useful the ranged combat tree is with ranged weapons. Ranged combat has universal skills and ability modifiers for all ranged weapons. Conversely, the 2H sword tree doesn’t have anything useful to offer someone who is fighting unarmed, such as a TKA.
I understand the desire to balance it out on a point-per-point basis, but the ranged combat people are just getting a ‘better deal’. Will the second tree required for the brawler elite professions be made useful or are they to be a mindless grind whose only purpose is to eat up skill points? If the latter is true, would it not be just as easy to have each box in the tree cost twice the normal skill points?
