Thread: The hazards of going Berserk...
This is something that needs to be looked at IMHO. I understand that they felt that Berserk was overpowered, but they went about changing it the wrong way.
As it is...
Berserk lowers our defense when used, which means we're taking more damage while Berserked.
Berserk has a chance to fail and still uses HUGE amounts of HAM regardless and sometimes I've failed up to 4 times in a row.
Once you are Berserk you are not guaranteed to hit anything...and I find myself missing the mob several times in a row all the while losing more damage because of lower defense.
SOE had no problem nerfing the damage but they failed to give us anything in return.
At least change the to hit ration while Berserked or the chance % that it works. You nerfed the damage to the point where at my skill level it's completely useless...twenty more damage per round over unarmed blind at twice the HAM cost and not even guaranteed that it will come up.
I honestly feel that Berserk should not fail. I mean why are we taking a double penalty percentage of failure as well as automatically taking more damage for a style that's just not that effective anymore?
Yes - berserk is pretty much worthless.
Oh - and lunge is worthless too.
Stun & Blindseem to be Ok thoughso 50% of our special moves do work.
And we can always kite to avoid 80% of our opponents attacks too - oh - sorry, that was marksmen.
Akuna
I like Berzerk - ONLY after the Master Brawler skill mod +20. Berzerk 2 will kill enemies before they know it, that and Vibro Knucklers help... a lot.
I still only use Berzerk is desperate situations (3+ mobs). If I fail it once, it may spell doom.
I'm a brawler on planet Rori right now, and no vibro knuckles exist here, in fact, they are just barely starting to make something different than Bone armor here.
As for berserk, the problem with me is that I can't take anything without it! If I try to fight a white con without berserk then I die, and sometimes I still die anyway since berserk fails. I don't even bother to use Intimidate cause berserk far outweighs the benefits of intimidate and intimidate uses as much HAM too. Also, why do we have the taunt skill? It does nothing, I tried taunting a couple of monsters and it just says "Taunt successful" yet it doesn't aggro them or anything? Unarmed lunge is completely useless as it does no damage, but it says it can extend your reach and cause them to go prone, the ratio for them going prone must be 1:100 chance, and it wastes a turn in which you couldve inflicted damage. The Stun command seems ok, except I don't think it actually stuns anyone? I use the stun commands many times but it doesn't actually stop their attacks, all it says is "Stunned", yet they are still attacking normally, i just use stun for the damage it inflicts. Also, melee attacks miss FAR too much, how can marksmen hit so easily from far away, yet up close to a monster we get a -5 accuracy modifier? and even still with just -5 we miss alot. Seriously, a guy who cant puncha dumb monster at point blank range must be blind, I could understand missing that much against another humanoid. Even worse, when I'm doing destroy missions and clear out 3 or 4 mobs guarding the nest, I have to sit for about10 full minutes before I can get my HAM back up, and by that time new gaurds spawn near the nest and im in an endless loop, and if somehow I manage to have a good amount of HAM and start attacking the nest then even more spawn out, even if 1 comes out and I stop attacking the nest, they continue to pour out. The only one trick that has worked for me is attacking the nest and making 5 or6 of them come out, then do a burst run away from the nest, and then continue to burst run back toward the nest and get some more hits in before the mobs reach the nest.
Here's my 2 cents at Lunge
Without dizzy, lunge has two purposes.
1) To stop kiters from running from you (lunge them before they flee)
2) Group lunging works great because they immediately fall on their bellies while the rest of the brawlers chew them up.
Today we killed 4 dark jedis on Ahazi Corellia, Tyrena. Granted, we had roughly 35 players (2 groups...) and took down one jedi at a time. The immediate job of the brawler is to lunge the jedi so he can't get up and attack any of us. We practically pinned him down on the floor with lunge. Because Lunge has such good range, you can usually do hit and runs with lunge. There were about four of us doing lunge runs back and forth between the helpless jedi. This is not always enough because enemies tend to get up real quick from a lunge, which brings me to my next point
3) Lunge + dizzy. Lunge is a fast hit. You can almost always execute another move after you lunge before your enemy is capable of doing anything (unless you have a super slow weapon, like an axe..).
Thus, if you dizzy immediately after you lunge, your opponent will still be kneeling. They will try to get up, but if they do, they will fall over unconscious. This will give you literally minutes to do whatever you wish. Be it beserk, body hits, whatever. Us brawlers helped take down the jedis this way by keeping them on the floor unconscious. This was dangerous however, because the Jedi are high level and could get up from a dizzy really fast.
Conclusion: Lunge is your good friend.
