Thread: How can melee beat range?

I dueled my friend, a pistoleer. I am a swordsman. The first thing he would do, was run and start kiting me. I would manage to lunge him a few times, but he would just stand up and run before I could get into melee range. He could kill me without me getting a single attack off asside from lunge.

Is there anything we can do to beat this? It's bull crap that we are defensless to kiting. I don't think any amount of skill can beat this tactic. I can't figure out any way to stop it. Even if he started right next to me, he'd still win. I could manage to knock him down, but he'd just stand up and start running.

I could understand you losing if someone with range, attacks you from range. But if they start in melee range, they should have no chance of winning.

I just thought of using dizzy on them first, but still, I don't think it will help much. Unless I start in melee range and get an attack off before he runs....

Too bad traps don't work on people. That's kinda stupid. If they did, it could solve so many melee problems...

I defeated a pistoler yesterday in an open courtyard on Coronet. I had to chase him all over the place to lunge him, but he kept getting up. Eventually I cornered him into a wall, lunge, and dizzied him. He fell over and I proceeded to murder him. Didn't DB him though. Hehe

That was probably my first experience of being kited. A lot of it is anticipating where they will run next, and intercept them as they go. If you find yourself in a losing chase, either use burst run, lunge, dizzy, or hide around a wall and wait until they come around. It becomes all tactics when all you have is a sword. If they get caugh they will die. If not, you will die.

How exactly are you dizzying people? Unarmed Brawlers get Hit, Stun, Blind, and Spin Attack. As far as I know we don't get Dizzy until Teras Kasi into Intermediate Power Techniques.

Melee/brawler does not automatically make you unarmed. I treat myself with a sword and dizzy+lunge all day long. It's a perfectly valid technique to killing humanoids, but doesn't work against creatures.

flux forgot to mention he is one of my brethren a one handed sword man. Also i believe lunge 2 would help, it has knockdown instead of posture change but you got to getmaster brawler for it.

The answer is simple my friend,

Pick your places to fight better. Unarmed and Melee types are designed for close quarters. This will get better and better as more Factioned players start popping up. Take your brawler to Cantina's or Medical Facilities where those Imperial jerkos hang out. Indoors an Unarmed person rules the roost..The enemy has no where to run.

Outside in an open field is our weakest point. On a busy city alley..or in a building is where we own!. Pick your fights wisely. I had a fight yesterday that was too funny. There was an Imperial in Coronet causing a ruckus. We had a bunch of ranged guys prone and firing at him down an alley..and he was prone on the other end. I ran around the building and came up behind him. Before he realized what was happening i sent him to the clone facility. I caught him prone and was Beserk with a good set of Vibroknuckles. The first hit wacked him for massive damage..then i DB'd him..Buh bye.

In short just pick your fights where you are strong. And avoid the weakest area of your profession.

Hey Shad! Whatsup my man. I have a question for you.

Lunge2 sounds so incredibly good. I want it now! If I were to master all the other melee weaponry and get master brawler, can I give up the other skills yet still keep master brawler? I think it might be worth my time and effort, as it only took me about 4-5 days straight to reach master one handed swordsman. It might take longer for unarmed though...

hey flux

to anwser your question you have to give up master brawler before you can give up any of the branches. i know it stinks but hopefully the bonuses should really help pvp and pve if it doesnt you can always forfeit it.

Actually, I am not. Swordsman is 2H.

Heh, and I am imperial, not rebel.

Anyways, I'll have to try a few things. I guess I always have the option of running the opposite direction, if I have to...
