Thread: 1 hand sword help
Every weapon has a sweet spot so to speak. Knives/daggers have a very short range so hitting something that is practially ontop of you is easier than hitting something with a sword when it's ontop of you.
That make sense? I think it's listed in the weapon description as prefered range or something like that.
I was typically running right on critters and chopping away.
But as a expert one hander with a Ryyk blade I realized if I stopped short, I was taking less damage, and hitting faster, and if I am hunting with my friends pet, I never get the aggro, because I let the creature go in closer than me and I wont use a special maneuver to aggro.
I started using /follow and like it a lot, also that sweet spot from what i understand on melee weapons is not that sweet. from what i understand if examine your weapon will see numbers like 21/21/21 which is minium range/sweet spot/max range. note on melee weapons they are all the same, unlike range weapons which may look like -9/18/-2 or 1/23/6.
I think with a sword you are less likely to hit BUT when you do inflect more damage. by doing this the devs have insured the daggers and knivies will still be used by some high level players and they don't become only newbie weapons. Also some weapons will likely work better a type of mob the others, in other words the best weapon to fight a spider may not be the best weapon for fighting a humanoid.
Good luck
