I'm trying to figure out a use for this move. It doesn't seem to work against monsters at all, and in PVP the person can just get up right away before you can even get a single attack off.. not to mention the fact that many people have defense vs posture change attacks anyway.
Perhaps add a delay for changing postures if hit by a posture change attack (like the disarm skill in UO there's a 5 second timer that prevents a player from re-arming once you disarm them).
Another possible balance would be to increase lunge attack range, and increase the damage.
Not many other issues I can think of.. SWG is playing much better than I was expecting, after reading negative reviews on user rating sites

Ugh...that is so true. I got into a PVP scuffle the other day against a pistol user. As expected, he started to kite me and as expected, I started to use unarmed lunge. Guess what happened? I hit him with the lunge and he got up and RAN before I could hit him with a 2nd attack EVERY SINGLE TIME. What's the deal? If the devs wanted it to be like this than at least have unarmed lunge do more than 1 point of damage. I know they intended it to be a posture change attack but when its horrible even at that you know something needs a fixin'.

Lunge did damage in Beta - it could be used to "trap" MOBs at 15m range so that you could kill them while taking no damage what-so-ever. I personally solo'd some pretty big MOBs using Lunge.
To solve this problem SOE change lunge to do only 1 damage. This makes it useless for soloing MOBs as they will regen health faster than you can take it away.
As it is now, yes lunge pretty useless against MOBs. Forcing MOBs to a lower posture should give you a higher "to hit" bouns against them. Unfortunaly the "to hit" bouns for Unarmed is currently bugged (ever notice how when you are meeleing a MOB there is a -5 nest to its HAM bar? That -5 should be a +15 or so)

the purpose of unarmed lunge is to stop something from moving so that you can catch up with it and smack it. in PVE, this actually works quite well (although the HAM cost is ridiculous, just like every other unarmed attack; if you miss, you've just hit yourself for close to 80 damage with no benefit whatsoever).
in PVP, the attack is useless. if a player is kiting you, then he is holding down the run button. if he is holding down the run button and is forced to kneel, then he will automatically stand up and keep running. the devs claimed in a patch just before the end of beta that a delay was added to posture down attacks to keep the victim in place longer, but i'm not seeing any sort of delay when i get hit with a posture down attack myself.

Only real use for lunge right now is to work in a group against NPCs, with one person knocking the opponent down and the other meleersgetting the increased damage bonus from the opponent being either kneeling or prone.
