Ok I've just done some extensive PVP and PVE testing with the ranged combat system.
It seems that in the new version the combat to-hit modifiers are bugged and the stats for brawling and marksmenship have been reversed.
Brawlers get a -5 to hit at close range, and gun users get +15!
I was actually wondering why my marksmanship rifle skills were killing people much better than my unarmed skill, and all my headshots were connecting more than I could get hit.
You can test it out yourself.. check the to hit modifier from 64 meters while equipping a gun. It will go from -50, increase as the target gets closer, then decrease back down to -10 as they get really close, and then suddenly it will pop back up to +15 while touching someone.
For brawling it will be out of range then the to-hit modifier will gradually increase to +10 and as they get really close the modifier will suddenly jump down to -5!
Right now, in PVP and PVE it is actually *better* for the gun user to get into extremely close range and exploit this bug.
It is actually advantageous to let a brawler lunge attack you so you kneel for better hit modifiers! You'll have a +20 better hit chance than the brawler and tear him up while he can't even hit you.
I hope one of the DEVS see this and passes it on soon, because when people figure this out it will make brawling virtually useless.

once you start seeing TKA's, you'll realize just how wrong this is (although i still think TKA's weren't doing nearly enough damage at the end of beta). however, you do have a point: there's no reason why unarmed though be getting a -5 base accuracy modifier while in melee range. at the absolute least, it should be higher than a pistol user's.

I thought it was just me seeing some sort of a displaybug... But if its everyone and it is in fact true then ya we need to have this addressed. I was playing my marksman on another server an at optimum range he had +30something to hit. Yet my poor unarmed guy going toe to toe has -5?
