Thread: Melee attacks underpowered?

I know it is still early, I am only advanced one hand and unarmed, but it would seem to that since melee attacks are done in close comabt that they would deal more damage to make up for having to take more damage from close combat. Since there are no tanks in SWG then it would seem reasonable that melee attackers would be able to dish out more dps than the equivalent leveled ranged fighter that can shoot from a distance and severely weaken the mob before it gets close. I am only intermediate carbine, yet i can take out mobs much faster and with less damage with my carbine pistol than with either unarmed or one hand.

Another comment about the brawler line. It seems to me that the commands you gain from specializing aren't effective enough to make them worth using. For example, the one hand body hit, takes a lot longer to kill a mob than just going berserk. In berserk, I kill faster and I take less damage, even withthe penelty to hit. I wanted to go mainly melee in combat, and I would still like to, but it seems like combat is mostly focused on ranged.

Unarmed was slighty unbalanced in Beta... There was a knee-jerk reaction, and now we are severly hurting... Who knows what will come, but for now, we are just plain borked. And yes I am still playing one...not having a great deal of fun, but hopefully Sony will see the error of their ways and throw us a bone in the next set of balancing fixes.

What V-vex said. Ranged players saw that unarmed was doing (melee weapons have never done enough damage) as much damage as they were and started whining until it got changed. It was probably too high, but it got knocked down a tad too low. There really is no advantage to going melee, and there is no disadvantage to going ranged. If you choose melee, be ready for a hard, slow road, littered with down time thanks to the extra damage you take.

I know what you guys are saying but you might be misunderstanding or just going about the character wrong. I'm doing brawler to go to TKA and I do get beat down on most occasions, but I'm a great tank for my party...and I do some heavy damage. In the lower levels you will find that berserk is really the way to go. Creatures come down pretty quick. Can't say it doesn't work because I was out hunting with 3 brawlers and 2 marksmen and we took down 3 numfas. I was the tank and I was down to about 30 health points.

The thing is, there isn't a tank class in this game. I could tank just as well using ranged attack, and do more damage in the process. Anyone can tank if they have high hit points. I would love to be an effective brawler in a group, but i can take a creature down much faster shooting it.

I kind of like the borkedness of the unarmed skills, it gives us more chanllange in the game and IMO it makes scence. Melee combat is harder and facing someone with a ranged weapon the melee player should have a harder time winning. If you want to be more matched up with the ranged player learn some ranged weapons and attack while you get close enough to switch to melee. Using both attacks works good for me.
