I see plenty of low level scouts and marksmen take on things under them,and at their level with little to no difficulty...I'm a one handed edge user...and I have trouble with two gorts....Heck, if I take on ONE gort at low energy, I lose. In effect, I can't complete any missions, have no armor..and only a sword. Am I doing something wrong here?

Being a scout doesn't help (except, perhaps in that they can use some traps) but the advantage of the marksman is that he can get off two or three shots before he has to face the critter in melee. And against gnorts, sometimes two or three shots is all you need.

Melee folk get beat up and battered from the get-go. It's a hard road, that's for sure. I don't know much about armor (I'm mainly a rifleman, contemplating learning a little 2handsword) but I understand there -is- akind of armor that protects against kinetic (tooth / claw) damage... might be worth investigating. Also, make sure you're using the best weapons you can get your hands on. Really makes a difference.
