Thread: Bull Ronto's Pain in the membrane!
Here's a thread that describes exactly what I have experienced so far, just in another and more broad context.
The Mind damage issue should be adressed somehow. It seems insanely illogical that my Brawler should have a higher MIND than HEALTH and ACTION..

Mind damage is just a fact of life. Some creatures seem to do more of it than others. They seem to be the bigger badder ones such as rontos, banthas, etc. I do not think the solution is making mind heal like is suggested in the other thread. I would say also that some creatures even have a Head hit attack(i know for a fact that mauler masters can use headshot) Wear a good helm. I carry one in my inventory, and if I see head getting hit, I put it on.
Another theory I have is that attacks like stun blind dizzyand hit do actually prefer a pool when they do damage. They just dont say so.
I am an Unarmed Master, on my way to TKA Novice.
Last night I went hunting with a group of friends just outside Wayfar and we happened upon a lair of Ronto's. Among these were the infamous Bull Ronto's which we of course proceeded to lay waste upon.
At least, that was the plan. I stepped in to the fight, having my personal Doctor behind and my Marksman buddy firing away body-shots galore. The problem was that this Bull-thingey had a tendency to give massive damage across all three HAM's and for the first time it seemed that it concentrated on whacking my mind!?
I made NO special attacks. Wore NO armor and only used my VK's, which has passable mind-consumption. Even so they KEPT on whacking my mind down faster than I've ever seen before. (I have approx. 600 in mind at the moment).
After a couple of Bulls, I had to step out and completely rethink my strategy (and my Stat Migration Scheme). If this Bull Ronto is indicative of the upper tier attacks, which gives massive mind damage, my role as a tank is screwed.
I need some help to figure out how to cope with this and how I can ensure I stay a valuable asset to my friends team.
So, my questions are:
1. What is your HAM spread (in rough numbers)
2. Have you ever had a problem with fighting mobs and very quickly running out of mind??
3. What is a good strategy to attack mobs like this?
I noticed this as well fighting Mobs on Dathomir. I have already given my Mind pool a 100 point boost at the cost of my health. We will see how this works.
Do not forget that food and meds can give great boosts to your pools.
I tried wearing a helmet. Didn't do anything for me. Just lowered my mind more initially and din't absorb enough damage to make a difference.
It seems I need to rethink my role completely.Brawlers are NOT tanks in the current incarnation. Maybe this will somehow dramatically change once I reach TKA Novice, but I doubt it based on the other threads I've read.
The "Death-by-mind-hits"has become extremely evident when I combat mobs that are read, even to a 4 man group. 2 marksmen, 1 Doctor and myself a Unarmed Master (soon to be TKA Novice) pummel the crap out of me in not time, leaving the marksmen to kite/threaten shotthe critters to death with no problem.
Of course we could try and attack less-than-red cons, but anyone remote familiar with the xp-sharing system knows that would mean almost negligable xp to all involved.
So where does this leave me as a Unarmed hand-to-hand melee? In a very dismal place actually:
-I cannot effectively group on larger mobs unless a pet does the tanking
- I cannot tank in smaller groups, or groups without pets, due to mind damage hits.
- The xp progression rate of marksman by far outweigh my own, leaving me soloing
In effect, the mind-damage issue means that as a group-member I am a terrible burden. I need to get in really close to mobs and if I am the only one there, I'm incapped by Mind hits before you can say "Not the head! Not the head!"
I need someone more experienced than me try and explain how they play their TKA's, so that maybe I can adapt to what my role should be. Right now I'm stumped as to how I can be a an asset to my friends group.
After achieving Novice TKA a while ago, I've recently raised my HAM's to the following configuration:
Health: 1100
Action: 900
Mind: 900
It has given me a chance of living longer against mobs which deals massive damage across all HAM's, but the issue is still the same. If I'm up against bad mobs, my Doctor friend has no problem what so ever in keeping me alive for a mob - maybe two - but more than that my mind is toast.
Its a pain in the ass forthe small group hunts I go on. Wearing a helmet is not an option since the HAM costs are massive in order to get a decent protection percentage and after evening out Health/Action/Mind like I did, means the costs of specials are much higher...
Being a TKA has not magically granted me uber-ness to resist Mind hits more. On the contrary, as I find myself levelling up, I need to go against harder and harder targets - which further punishes the Mind.
Its still not balanced in my oppinion. And its still an issue.
Granted, I could opt not to against so hard mobs, but honestly, if I can't go against yellow mobs with a team of 4, including a pet and a probot...what the hell CAN we go against??
I still haven't seen any effective tactics to repress the mind-hit issue. Other than stepping out of the fight, which for a Melee-artist kinda defeats the whole purpose..
