Thread: Have anything good to say about Pikemen?

Why worry about what other people think about it? It's an evolving game. Your character should evolve, too. Why not go pikeman and find out if YOU like it or not? Polearms can to very good damage. The only problem I've seen with them is their speed. But the damage makes up for it a lot of times.

Going the TKA route is definitely a long road. It's tougher than going polearm because of the lack of damage you do unless you get good knucklers. But you can read about all the problems people have with knucklers in the TKA forums. I've been playing this character for about 2 weeks now and I JUST hit TKA Novice a couple of nights ago. Still have a ways to go before I can even get Intermidiate in ANY of the skills for TKA.

To sum up, do what you have fun doing. Don't worry about what other people think. It's YOUR character, not theirs.

Does anyone have anything good to say about pikemen? I've been working getting xps and am now almost a Master Polearm? Am I wasting my time? Does anyone LIKE being a pikeman? What do you like about it? Or should I just go TKA?

I agree. Choose whatever you like best. I am a master brawler and will probably go Pike man. All the different options do around the same damage. 2 Hand and Polearm do big damage but are slow. TKA or unarmed is fast but does less damage. Fencing is kinda in between. Later on each of the weapons has different benefits ( fencing-dodge, 2hand-counterattack, polearm-block, etc.). This game is also only one month old so if you are not familiar with mmorpg games expect to see some classes strengthend and some weakened (nerfed). Alot of people that know what they are doing pick 2 hand because it attacks mind and many people dont realize how weak they are only having 500 mind bar. This will change however as people wise up. Polearm attacks action which I think helps because almost every skill uses some action where as mind is almost never used by a brawler. Fencing has health attacks and TKA gets some meditation stuff. I guess that will give you some idea of the benefits. If you also use a ranged weapon such as rifle you might either pick 2hand so both have mind attacks or pick a weapon that attacks something else so you dont put all your eggs in one basket. If that makes sense. Hope this helps

TKA is much faster and easier than pikeman, especially if you go to the Tuskens for exping. Main reason, is with a good pair of knucklers you get sliced down in the high 1.x range, you will hit so much faster thus getting more damage in and grabbing a lot more exp. And if you max out the column with the +s to speed, that only makes it faster for you. Not knocking TKA, that is just what I noticed when I do Tuskens with a lot of my TKA friends.

It's a moot point because with slow weapons you have a lot of front-loading in terms of damage. Exp, you swing that axe and do 500 damage instantly. Sure, the vibro knuckler may eventually catch up and pass you, but if it dies really fast you'll get the lion's share of EXP. There's no sure-fire way to get the best EXP.

Had a friend who was going pikeman while I was going TKA. We both got weapons from Kammi on the same day, and wandered about.

I'd hit 200, 260, he'd hit for 200, I'd hit for 240, 300, he'd hit for 800... Damage was loosely random on his pike, but we usually came out close after several enemies, in terms of xp earned.

If the high end of the game is anything like EQ, having a slower weapon with larger damage serves to your advantage. I have no idea if high end mobs in SWG are like this or not, but a high end EQ mob will eat someone alive if they have a fast weapon because of ripostes.
