Thread: Armor or not

It reduces damage by the resist % on the armor, based on where you take the hit. Like Chitin Gloves with 9% kinetic resist will soak up 9% of the damage from that hit. At least, that's how I think it works.

For what it's worth, I wear full chitin (except for a nice mabari helmet) when I group, because I always end up tanking, and it seems to help a lot due to the kinetic resist on it. I can tell that I last a lot longer with the armor than without it. I'm a novice Fencer by the way.

If I'm soloing though, I fight much weaker enemies and I go without it, just so I can regen faster. The decision to wear armor is really all about benefit; for enemies you'll be taking lots of hits from (so that the resistance negates or surpasses the regen bonus) it's worth it, but if you're fighting things you can kill in 1-3 hits it's probably not.

That's not exactly the way armor works...

If an armor shows any resist at all to a particular damage type then... It immediately Halves that incoming damage and

then

applies the visible resist to the remaining half.

I don't have my calculator handy, and can't do it in my head, so I don't know exactly what Overall resist that 9% or so, example would give, but it's like 54.5% resist, rather than

9%

or

59%

something like that.

Is the halving of damage a function of that "armor value" or "armor class" (sorry, I'm blanking on the right phrase) number--the thing that comes at the beginning of an armor piece's stats and is usually 1?

Also, did any of you see my post about armor in Game Guides, dealing with how different armor pieces affect damage to different body parts? I was wondering about some of the stuff that's being discussed here, but I didn't get any answers . . .

ok ive been playing a brawler for quite a while, and have never used armor. It just seems as if our already high ham costs, coupled with the stat loss makes it not worth it, yet some brawlers ive seen swear by it.

so how exactly does armor work? I.e. if i was going to get bone armor leggings and boots or something like that, what would that protect? would some dmg in battle be totally negated, or just partialy? can someone give me a quick rundown on how it actually works, and if its worth it for a brawler. i seem to die pretty easily but im not sure if thats cuz im not wearing armor or general suckiness of brawlers =P

btw human brawler, goin for 1h master, maybe thinking of goin 2h

Armor really is the way to go with brawler in the long run.

Its very important to max out the second supporting stat for health and action (strength and quickness) because your skill drain correlates to those values. Use your mind pool for stimpacks for healing, that means become at least proficient at medic. It really help in the long run, much shorter downtime and you can earn some credits at the hospital too.

hrm thnx hewer that helps a bit.. but still a little confused. as the guy below mentions, what do the diffrent pieces protect? i.e. does a bicept piece protect body only? do legs and boots protect action only? helmet mind only? how does that work?

also some of them list a base effectivness... what does that mean? what does that protect against?

still quite confused on armor, want to try it out but i have no clue what to look for, wont bone armor be worhless since it seems to just cover blast dmg (that means blasters right?) .. unless base effectivness does something

Armor protects the part it is designed for. On your screen hit the combat tab, this will show the damage you are doing, as well as taking. If you are wearing say legs, when you see the - x number on the screen, legs for example, if you have leg armor it will say, " So and so hits you for x amount of damage. Your whatever armor absorbed y amount of damage." So not only like the above poster stated, is armor worth wearing at times when you're tanking hard hitting long lasting foes, but also maybe only a few pieces may be worth it.(if you are sticking to only one or two kinds of creatures...people)

For example, plenty of shorter critters might only really hit your legs 80% of the time, so why bother with the encumbrances of bp arms , etc. As soon as a man sized foe attacks my brawler however, I am readily aware that I am just wearing legs as I get hit with no damage reduction in the chest..

Sounds like I need to keep a better eye on the combat spam, then. One thing I was wondering washow different pieces that cover the same area (e.g., leggings and boots, biceps and bracers and gloves) stack; maybe my answer's there.

hrm ok, but that doesn't answer my question about base effectivness, what does that stat mean?

also, would a shoulder and arm piece protect all body hits, or just ones that say +hitarm?
