Brawler Archive

I was just wondering if a Teras-Kai/Swordsman brawler would be effective? If all those defensive bonus stack then he would be very hard to hurt or hit in combat. On top of which if he had the ranged support ability to max he would get those defensive bonuses as well. If for some reason they dont stack then its not worth it. Does anyone know the answer to this then?

I would assume that the general bonuses would stack. The unarmed bonuses only apply when unarmed and vice versa though.

Well, when I went through the Brawler tree I noticed that it'd say "1-Handed Defense" or "Polearm Defense" and not just "Defense". Why would those stack? Seems pretty clear to me that the stats only apply to the particular weapon used. Admittedly, I don't know if things are different in the Swordsman tree, but in TKA it just says "Unarmed Defense" which leads me to believe that it only applies to unarmed.

Am I the only person that sees that in my tree?

I think it does stack since I have a melee defense of +5 for being a Two handed sword specialist and a Melee Defense +2 from ranged support abilities for a total of +7. How could this be if they did not stack?

General "melee defense" bonuses will stack. (That's why marksman support abilities are good to spend combat exp on, you get ranged defense with that).Anything specific, like "polearm toughness" only applies when equipped with a weapon of that type.

I didn't even look at ranged support for melee defenses.

I was just talking about the different brawler defenses not stacking since they seem to be specific to the weapons that are used.

Hmm so a Teras Kai/Swordsman might actually have some pretty good all around defense then?

Anyone have a list of what stacks with what?

I know that marksmen skills have bonuses that stack for us brawlers fairly well. For example, Pistoleer has some melee and ranged defense bonuses which don't stack with brawler weapon specific bonuses, however because ranged bonuses are "general", they will help you even if you have a melee weapon. This goes with Ranged Support tree line as well, and will help you no matter what class you are.

As for the brawler tree, the individual weapons bonuses for defense do not inter-mix unless they are a "general" defense, for example the Unarmed IV has a "melee defense+5" which stacks with other "melee defense" you can get, and will work regardless of weapon. "Polearm defense", the ability to defend melee while using a polearm, does not intermix with "1hsword defense" modifiers, because they demand you using that specific weapon to recieve that defense.
