Thread: Melees need to say NO to defense upgrades YES to offense
All you people asking for defense are just going to ruin melees. Where now you'll have to take your 1k HAM melee, tank a Kimogila or similar creature, then risk dying and get nothing at all except a long run back.
Leave the tanking to CH pets and factional pets. Let the bots take the damage and the deaths. Its not even a real death for a Pet!
Make the devs give melees offense. That we can use while the pets are doing the tanking. Don't be stupid and ask for defense that won't ever help at high levels anyway. Remember MOB HAM gets exponentially higher as you level. Just imagine when expansions come out and they add even harder encounters. You don't want to be tanking Force Sensitive Ultra Rancors.
Trust me the devs want to add to melee defense because they know its useless. We're talking about simple math here. 20K HAM creature vs 1500 HAM wookiee. Whose gonna win no matter what the wookiees defense is?
Let the pets do the tanking, give melees offensive power. Right now trying to tank is like sticking your hand in an oven that is 500 degrees, if they upgrade melee defense its going to be like sticking your hand in an oven that is 250 degrees. Either way you're gonna pull back a hand with 3rd degree burns.
Pets aren't very good at tanking because they don't taunt. If you send the pets in and then you go try to land hits on the Dark Jedi or whatever, you'll land a few shots and then he's going to turn around and chop you in half.
So on the contrary, it's more offense that would be useless. Until we can survive being hit by a Dark Jedi Master, there's really no point in upping our damage output.
The real problem with their proposed solution is that I'm not sure how helpful it will be for preventing mind hits. Doctors can't buff mind, can't heal mind, so all the Dark Jedi/Krayt/Kimo/etc has to do is hit you in the head once and you're going down.
They need to fix that or I dount any other fix will matter.
But I WANT to be able to engage in melee with things. That means getting in a MOB's face and surviving - or having a chance of surviving. And I don't want to have to be fighting along side a rancor or squad of stormtroopers to do it. I want to risk my life by going toe-to-to with high-end MOBs, instead of committing suicide when I go toe-to-toe with high end MOBs. I want to take on NPC MOBs with my one or two ranged buddies, and be the guy who draws fire and keeps the melee guys out of their faces. I don't want to be the third claw for somebody's high-end pet.
The devs appear to be trying to help us out. They're asking us what we want, offering solutions based on what we've asked for, and asking our opinions on the proposed solutions. They obviously can't please everybody, but I for one am glad they are trying to do something.
If everything they have talked about gets implemented, I think melee will be more fun. It might not be perfect, but it will be a lot better than when I started playing.
When a brawler attacks a mob he always gets the aggro, no matter how much some pet is hurting it. The elite melee professions (especially TKA and Two-Hand) can already dish out pretty good damage, but the damage output doesn't matter very much if they die too quickly. Adding defense would increase the longevity of a brawler much longer than a little attack boost.
Let me show you the main flaw in your plan with letting CH pets, faction pets or droids tank while we just do massive dammage.
Creatures doesn't nessarly keep attacking the thing that attacks them first.
I've experienced on meny occasions creatures turning away from me and take out my buddy next to me. We're both brawlers I attacked first, he ran in and next thing I know he's taking hits. So it's easy for a ranged person to say let the pets handle it cause the creature will not often leave whatever is engaging it in melee combat and go for the ranged person. Melee has other issues.

I go 'toe to toe' with 10 HAM creatures all the time. Solo. I hit for 400-600+ every second. Why dowe need more offense? Defense would increase the number of creatures we could tank at once. That is what we need.
