yodapugg:

I am a frustrating 2000XP away from Master Unarmed right now. Just finished watching my wife, who plays a pistoleer, take out a room full of white con mobs while taking about 250 dmg herself, total, using specials, at about 250-300 XP each.

I, on the otherhand, went through what you are right now. It gets boring, but I just camped the spawns right outside cities (spent most of my time around Mos Ethna). You only get 60-90 XP per kill but you can go all day with a few stim-As. A few hints that have helped me....

a) get markman and a rifle (although pistol or carbine would work as well). Take a few pot-shots and melee mobs will run to you. Unequip and start beating on them the manly way. Find a good lair and you will end up with a pile at your feet..

b) find a blue con lair and camp it. I sit back about 45m, take post shots with the rifle so the mobs come to me, beat them.... rinse and repeat. Once all the mobs are dead, shoot the lair, spam /peace, then repeat above with the spawn. I rarely get the aggro gang coming all the way out to get me.

b) get Scout so you can harvest and make camps and traps. I love traps, some lower melee defenses.

c) bring along a weak pet to group with. mobs con higher for more XP.

All that said, to answer your specific question, camp the spawn points just outside of towns. Get to out of the way towns like Mos Ethna or Deeja Peak so the competition is lower.

And... have fun. Unarmed may be the hardest combat tree to climb; the satisfaction of doing it will be worth it.

I don't agree with the above post at all. Screw guns becauseany damage you do witha guntakes away from what xp you get while unarmed. Instead, get the scout profession and throw wire mesh traps. This will pull the target to you and even lower it's melee defense. It has a great range too for what you are doing.

1) get yourself some vibro knucklers that are around 2.0 speed and have a max damage of 120 at least. I know you're thinking that you aren't certified for them but it doesn't matter. You will almost do the exact same damage as you already are but you will hit more than twice as fast. Add berserk to this combination and you're a KILLING MACHINE! Seriously, you will own stuff.

2) don't use any special hits while you have your knucklers on because it will drain your HAM like a mofo! Just hotkey em at the top and take em off when you want to do a special.

3) Get rid of your armor! Not sure why SOE made armor totally suck for us seeing as we are the tanks. It does well as protection but it will seriously hurt your stats."But why would I wanna run around in my wife-beater and boxer shorts" Bah! armor sux for us..just go get yourself a pimp lookin wardrobe.

All you gotta do is hunt stuff like crazy. Missions are cool for money but it takes to long to travel back and forth. The only way missions are worth it is if you find plenty along the way to kill.

The key thing here is big damage fast. Get you those vk's and /berserk the crap outta stuff!

I have Pistol Specialist, so I lead off my with blaster and bleed them, then when they come a' running I unequip it. The bleed kicks in about halfway through the fight, as I try to take it down with the pathetic offerings of the Unarmed line, and suddenly half their health has bled away. This does not effect your xp at all, you will still get 100% unarmed xp.

Sad though that I have to resort to using my Pistol.

The Unarmed line is the gimpiest starter combat skill tree in the game, and I have tried every single one of them post-releaseor in beta. That's why the removal of the VK cert without a counter-measure of upping the damage dealt, or lowering the HAM cost of specials, or decreasing the percentage of misses, or increasing our attack speed, or adding in a lower-tier knuckler weapon, was the most inappropriate nerf I've ever seen, in any MMO. Making the worst line even more useless makes no sense to me at all. I barely survive creatures that wouldn't even touch me if I was using a pistol, rifle, or carbine, while dishing out half the damage or so ofsomeone using asword, polearm, etc.

Oh well, I'm almost done with it. Hopefully, one of the devs will try it themselves one day with a new character. Then they'll see what we're talking about.

Personally, I like using looted knucklers. Their HAM costs are in line with a CDEF pistol. You won't hit quite as fast as well-crafted ones, but you can chain specials as if you were not using knucklers which more than makes up for it.

You might have to search on the bazaar for a while due to the low loot drops we have currently. They are usually reasonably priced if you can find them though.

my suggestion is get a bowcaster.

or whatever long range weapon you're NOT certified for.

pull with that.. it will only do 10 or so damage. so it won't takemuch XP away..

Ok, I am working on polearms. After getting the first box of polearm, I realized that I would like to work up unarmed too, to get some of the TKA defense bonuses. So I figured I better start working on unarmed too. I am taking missions to earn cash. When I take a mission, I fight the mobs with my polearm weapon, but when they are gone, I attack the nest, bare handed. Just doing this, I am half way through the third unarmed box in less than 2 days. Seems pretty fast to me.

I am now unarmed IV, and best tactic yet is getting vibro knuckles (mine are speed 2.1 and damage app. 20-135). Pull an enemy with any ranged weapon you cant use or some small CDEF type. Unequipt weapon, hit them without any weapon and Blind special move, then go berserk and equipt knuckles. I am doing great xp now with a friend (Polearm IV on her way to pikeman) on Lok with all kind of perleks. It says the lair is difficulty 25 but i dont think so. Together we can kill every perlek if we get them solo. the big ones give each of us 900 xp. every lair will spawn app. 8-12 enemys and will then be empty and can be destroyed easily for another 3k of xp. Little bonus is, that you can outrun those creatures without burst run.

Have fun
