Thread: Is the Brawler Profession unfinished?

I put some observations about Master Brawler in another post. Personally I don't believe it is worthmastering because of the amount of points you are spending. I currently have 1 skill point left, and aside from bein TKA-M, I need to drop some surveying skills to be able to get Master Doctor

It's up to the person, but my opinion is that it's poor designing to have skills avalible to a master brawler that you don't get when you master any of the elite professions avalible in the brawler sub trees.

There are actually 3 dead end professions :

  • Entertainer
  • Artisan
  • Brawler

By dead-end I mean that by mastering the profession, you do not open yourself up to anything new. Out of the 3, Artisan is probably the most un benificial, seeing as how there are no skill mods obtained with it( 5 shematics). Entertainer does give you skills and skill mods, (4 mods and 3 comands, plus one schematic)but most of the skills have an upgrade of some sort in the specific professions.

Brawler on the other hand feels like it was unfinished. Maybe rushed would be a better way to put it. Master Brawler adds :

  • CMD: Berserk 2 (/beserk2)
  • CMD: Intimidate 2 (/intimidate2)
  • CMD: One-Hand Lunge 2 (/melee1hlunge2)
  • CMD: Polearm Lunge 2 (/polearmlunge2)
  • CMD: Two-Hand Lunge 2 (/melee2hlunge2)
  • CMD: Unarmed Lunge 2 (/unarmedlunge2)
  • CMD: Warcry 2 (/warcry2)
  • + 20 Berserk
  • + 20 Intimidation
  • + 5 Melee Defense
  • + 5 One-handed Melee Toughness
  • + 5 One-handed Weapon Accuracy
  • + 5 One-handed Weapon Speed
  • + 5 Polearm Accuracy
  • + 5 Polearm Speed
  • + 5 Polearm Toughness
  • + 5 Ranged Defense
  • + 30 Taunt
  • + 5 Two-handed Melee Accuracy
  • + 5 Two-handed Melee Speed

That is 7 comands, and 13 mods. 3 of the commands and mods have no real upgrades of any type in the elite treesand could be VERY usefull.

The problem with Master Brawler is that if you *JUST* Master Brawler, you will still most likely get owned by any of the elite trees. So thats 7 commands in the Brawler profession that not many brawlers can spend the points effectivly to get.

Compare this to Marksman.

  • CMD: Overcharge Shot 2 (/overchargeshot2)
  • + 10 Carbine Accuracy
  • + 5 Carbine Speed
  • + 10 Pistol Accuracy
  • + 5 Pistol Speed
  • + 5 Ranged Defense
  • + 10 Rifle Accuracy
  • + 5 Rifle Speed

1 command and 7 mods. The command and mods areeasily bypassed in favor of more powerfull elite techniques and bonuses, but even if you DO master Makersman, there is somewhere to go from there, and you can use the skills in those professions. Overall, it's a much more efficiantly designed profession.

It leaves you with the impression that much more work would be needed to have comparable use of all the melee commands.

Just an observation, take it for what you can.

an entry lvl profession is not meant to compete with an elite profession. it is simply a means to get to an elite profession.

the skill system is set up so you can remain focused on a few set skills or become a jack-of-all trades sort.

i do not know anyone saying " i want to be a master ___________" (insert entry lvl class)

it is not meant to be something you will stop progressing once you achieve.

when i was playing my rifleman i had no intention of masting marksman, the skills and bonuses were not worth it - likewise with brawlerwith my Tka. you do not have to waste your points so why should you - especially on an entry lvl profession.

I think the point is that Master Marksman offers a higher bonus (Commando/BH) while Master Brawler gives you some skill mods and commands and nothing else.

JustinSane - Master Carbineer/Musician - Chilastra
Ororji - Master Musician/Teras Kasi - Kettemoor

CH, Marksman, Scout, Carbineer, Bio Engineer, Medic, Combat Medic, Merchant, Artisan, Dancer, Image Designer, Entertainer, Musician....all to get to Jedi.

Yes, that is the point I was trying to make.

Hence the phrase : Dead-End profession.

The other thing I was trying to point out was that you don't really miss out on anything when you specialize by not mastering Marksman. However, when you don't master Brawler, you don't get upgrades to almost any of the skills you miss out on.

Don't speak of this again because if Master Brawler is brought to the attention of the players and developers it'll get nerfed. Right now Post Knockdown nerf, Intimidate 2 is perhaps the best melee skill you can have.

If anything about master brawler is brought to the attention of the developers you can bet that intimdate will be lowered in power. Its best to just let sleeping dogs lie.

I would just assume people think master brawler sucks because the more people who take the profession the more likely it is the devs will look at it.
